Uhh, no. The UPCI hasn't made it to the Grammy's. Royal Tailor made it to the Grammy's. Please, don't dog RT in that manner. Even though they may be "connected" in some way, they're far more deserving of being congratulated than to replace them with saying the UPCI made it to the Grammy's.

Saying such nonsense would be equivalent to saying the Mormon church made it to the Grammy's if the Mormon Tab Choir received the nomination.

Please...

And, congrats to RT! Such a well-deserved award for a great group of musicians/artists...

I think what I probably should have said was, "Apostolic music has made it to the Grammy's."

Royal Tailor, a new Christian group who sings "Hold Me Together." Search them on YouTube...

That is a bad example, if the Mormon tab choir received the nomination it would have been the mormon church...

It should be more like saying that if Cain gets the Republican nomination for president, the Chicago Bulls will be in the white house.

I thought that RT was blasted by the institution/momma/UPCI...

They are all recent graduated from Indiana Bible College in Indianapolis, except the drummer, who is an alumnus of Gateway College of Evangelism in St. Louis.

They are, but it's mainly by the older people. The Word Aflame Bookstore refused to sell their product, not sure why though.

Because it is ran by old fogies.... They have NO sense of what is popular with the younger culture of the church.

Having just looked them up, I must say that I am not surprised by this turn. I am only surprised that the bookstore refused to sell their music. I suppose that it will only take about four more years or less and that will change. As was said a number of years ago now, when you open the door to one thing, you are going to get it all.

I have posted these links before but this thread is appropriate for them again so here goes.

The first is the music video of The Royal Tailor Band's uptempo song "Make A Move". The second link is for an instruction video on how to do the "uh oh" dance moves!

I must say that I was more than disappointed when I heard them. I have to listen to this type of sound constantly in the world. I love to get away from it when I listen to Gospel music.

CC1 12-01-2011 07:27 PM

Re: Royal Tailor Grammy Nomination

Jay, they have slower songs you might like better. I hope you listened to the words of the Make A Move song because the lyrics are great. A lot of UPC / Old Time Pentecostal folks judge a song because they don't like the style without at least acknowledging the lyrics are good and meaningful.

unitedpraise10 12-01-2011 07:35 PM

Re: Royal Tailor Grammy Nomination

A lot of older folks judge a song by it's beat! Simply ridiculous. Be thankful these guys aren't out on the streets drinking and doing drugs, instead they are on the road doing the work of the Lord, winning souls to Christ. The Grammy is the least part of it...yeah it's pretty cool, but that's not their main focus.

I am so totally impressed and am shocked that they have a UPCI background but then - so does King's of Leon & Goodbye June have UPC roots too!

Phillips, Craig, and Dean were also UPCI at one time or another. My Dad remembers at least one of them and his family.

Randy Phillips was only UPC as a boy. His dad left the UPC in 1978. The other two were UPC into adulthood and for awhile after PCD began.

Sean Craig was at our church many times during the 80's. He was an amazing musician!

As far as I know they still attend UPCs.

Sean Craig pastors an ex-upc church here in south St. Louis. He took Rev. Roy Geralds spot as Senior Pastor a few years back. It's quite a large church now.

I am picturing Elder Epley mastering the "uh oh" dance moves after watching the youtube instructional video a few times!

Those moves could bring the house down at the next big ultra con meeting he attends!

Re: Royal Tailor Grammy Nomination

That just made me shudder, although, I would probably go to the meeting just to see that in person. I would not be there for any other reason except for my entertainment, which is not why we go to those meetings. Still, on a purely carnal level, it would be interesting.

How is dancing carnal? The bible instructs us to dance before the Lord.

Good point. I think it may be argued much dancing today is sensual, and possibly inappropriate for public display... but then I have seen that at church too.

And if it isn't specifically "before the Lord", why is it still wrong?

Royal Tailor came to my former church earlier this year.

They are definitely Apostolic.
They are UPCI.
They are talented and anointed!
