And, of course, don't forget Hanukkah and the great victory and miracles that happened back then.

Re: Don't forget Kwanzaa!
I've never really studied Kwanzaa. Can a Christian celebrate Kwanzaa? It sounds like a cultural holiday focused on philosophical ethics that could be compatible with one's faith as a Christian.
Is Kwanzaa cool? |
Re: Don't forget Kwanzaa!
I'm thinking that while we should respect Kwanzaa followers, we are best to stick to the pagan holidays we are more familiar with, ie Christmas.

Ya know... if I didn't have kids... I think it would be peaceful to not celebrate all these crazy holidays.

Re: Don't forget Kwanzaa!
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------- I don't celebrate Christmas, Easter or any of the other religious holidays either. These days were not revered by the apostles, nor did Jesus ever make mention or even suggest that we honor his or else's birth day. I think celebrating birthdays, Mother's Day, Father's Day, Labor Day, Chinese New Year etc. are cultural things (do it if you want, but no one should be feel obligated to do so). Digging4Truth is right- all these holidays are unbiblical. But let everyone be fully persuaded in his/her own mind because this can be a contentious topic and people do seem to feel left out or whatnot if they aren't celebrating like most other people. There's a ton of emotion around this sort of thing. I live in a major metropolitan, multicultural city (NYC) and people are studying their comparative religions. People who are outside of Christianity know a lot more about the roots of these festivals and holidays than some people who are regular churchgoers. I think it's good for families and/or friends to be thankful every day and have family reunions and give gifts (of course don't go into debt and don't overeat), but to say that any of these festivals has anything to do with Jesus is not really accurate. It's funny though, that so very few of the church organizations that teach the Oneness of God really expound on the truth about the pagan holidays. One of the only organizations on a whole that I know of that does so is True Jesus Church: http://www.tjc.org/showArticle.aspx?aid=7219 (although they have some interesting ideas about the sabbath and water baptism in living water) Today 03:01 PM |
Re: Don't forget Kwanzaa!
No Christmas since 1975. Dont miss it tho Christmas SONGS do make an open door for school children to hear of Jesus. That is IF they still do that in school.

Not observing Christmas is fine. As long as you don't tell anyone else not to. Colossians 2:16. :D
