WD Youth Petition to save the District

My friend posted this somewhere...

Quote:

Yesteday the majority of the ministers at District Conference voted against splitting the district. This is not an official vote. This is just an 'opinion vote' so that headquarters can get an idea of how the people of the Western District feel. Saturday another vote will be held in the southern part of the district. After that vote the issue will the brought before the Headquarters General Board for discussion and they will make the final decision.

If you are against the Western District splitting please sign this petition. The more young people that sign the louder our voice will be!

(copy and paste http://pub32.bravenet.com/guestbook/2712946740 into your address bar to sign the petition) please take the time to sign it!

If the district splits it will mean:

Youth Convention
Sr. Camp
Way Choir
Drama Tour
Youth On Missions
Bible Quizzing
Praise On The Mountain
PK Retreat...

and many other events where we see our friends will CEASE to exist as we know them (this means either completely cease to exist or be reduced by 1/2 people!)

If the Western District splits at the grapevine ALL your friends on the other side of the grapevine will go to a completely different Youth Convention, Sr. Camp...etc.

Signing the petition may not do much to stop this split...but who knows it MAY be eye-opening to show how many YOUTH don't want it to happen!!!!

The link will take you to the petition.. and you can read the comments that the youth leave... They don't really want this!!

Those events will not necessarily cease to exist. There will be TWO of each now in locations other youth will probably have easier access to

Maybe they are uninformed....

What are they going to do when they are too old to go to youth camp??? Keep in touch? Now there is a novel idea

My young PK friend....

My kids went thru the same thing in Texas a few years ago.....

Their friend group wound up in another district.....

Their camps and ministries became different.....

They were sad.....

They were mad....

Still are 6 years later.....

But hang in there.....

Good luck with your petition drive...make sure you email it all to Bro Haney and Bro Jones......I am certain someone will help you with their email addresses.....

I would also get your dad to help you email it to the entire general board......

If you can't figure it out....

Or find help getting it to them....

Email it to me @ rkentsmith@conroeupc.org and I will try to help you out.....

Go for it.....

Why not....

You will probably be listened to and considered more than all the pastors combined.....

Bro. Smith that is an awesome thing you're doing and I commend you. (Like anyone takes my commedations seriously, but me, but oh well, ) I think it's great!!!

rkentsmith 05-17-2007 10:08 PM

Thank you Sis Carroll.....

So many times in these things the players cannot see the ones most impacted by their political motivations.....

I remember my teenagers going to youth camp without thier friend group....I wound up taking them to the new district so they could be with friends....

So many of the ministries that have taken years to organize etc are decimated by those that are so much more wise and know the will of God for the rest of us......

Ministries such as bible quiz to mention one.....not only will the quiz program be split but competition and district dynamics turned upside down......

Oh well.....

If my new young friend has the innitiative to get a petition together....

RKS here is willing to help em out.....

Tell ole Jack hello for me.....

any idea why? I wonder why someone that lives a 10 hour drive from campmeeting can't see the need to redo the district

Nobody is saying you can't go to our campmeetings....but tell me Berk...how would a district split effect you? If the campmeeting is moved to the middle of the northern district there would be more people who are closer to it and perhaps more likely to attend.

Let me ask....why NOT split it in two aside from the kiddie concerns? I mean they can still have their friends. They can still see them. I mean, after all when they are too old to go to camp, what will they do? lose contact or call them and drive up to see them?

Praxeas 05-17-2007 10:59 PM

BTW isn't gerry mandering about effecting representation and votes? An attempt to get someone elected etc etc? How would making two districts do that?

It will not affect me one iota. I am concerned for the youth that will be affected by this. Respectfully, you are old[er], so it will not really affect you.
I understand your position. I don't think they should be robbed of what they do have now just because they will grow distant when they are older adults.

Greater chance to have one of your own guys put into office.

but as it is there are probably far less youths going to many of these functions because of the driving distance and not fuel prices too.....

BoredOutOfMyMind 05-17-2007 11:03 PM

Prax, I am almost seeing double here, look up my post on the District Office fiasco and tell me the loss of Drama Tour and such as is forecast with the budget cuts is really best for this year with new GS and pivotal changes on the plate in the General Conference in the fall?

Besides, there is a closer YOUTH function in another city.....

It's just that I seem to remember you discouraging me from trying a petition drive last year, saying it wouldn't work.

My, how times have changed.

revrandy 05-17-2007 11:04 PM

I was told today about this website and it disturbed me..

To use these kids for political gain is nothing short of abuse... Please these kids worried about the district split when a number of them probaly don't attend district functions in the first place....some of the Pastors listed have their own youth camps and want their own meetings... and don't want their kids attending district functions anyways.....

To bring these kids into this is completely shameless and sickening...

I am sure it's just youthful innocence tho not fueled by their pastors who don't want the split to happen...

The control freaks were those who declared other events off limits.
