How many received the Holy Ghost 2011?

I have something I want to ask, and I realize that some might find it offensive, but, I'm curious and mean no offense

If you belong to a church that believes in receiving the Holy Ghost evidenced by speaking in tongues, how many people would you say received the Holy Ghost w/tongues in 2011 in your congregation?

If you find the question offensive, please disregard. Only answer if you don't mind answering.

thank you.

Well the most important to me is my two oldest daughters and my wife were baptized in Jesus name and recieved the Holy Ghost in 2011. As for our congregation I think the number is about 13.

Not as many as some years - and I am really just guessing, but I would say around 50.

The church has record of baptisms but I am not sure about receiving the Spirit with speaking in tongues.

Over 100 - not an exact count, because some people never tell us. We baptized 170 in Jesus' name.

That's great, specially in light of the fact you are what most consider a one stepper church.

You'd think you'd see numbers like that in churches that tell folks they are gonna burn in hell if that don't speak in tongues.

I prayed in altars for years in the 3 stepper churches and only once in my life did I ever hear someone speak in tongues when they first came to the altar.

Now I did hear people get "thick tongued" after screaming Jesus, Jesus, Jesus and then hear someone shouting in their ear...that's it that's it...now you got it.

Oh.....and the only seeker I ever heard clearly speak in tongues.... was drunk in a bar the next day and did not come back to church.

I think the number of Baptism's is around 250 and just a little above 200 for Holy Ghost. I could be wrong, but maybe my pastor will see this posting and correct me if I am wrong.

Re: How many received the Holy Ghost 2011?

Well...being from a typical UPC church I would have to say it's hard to count... A very few adults who understood repentance, were baptized in Jesus name and then when hands were laid on them and they were prayed with received the HG with evidence of tongues... just like the Bible says!

Then there were the seekers and backsliders, who have previous experience with Pentecost and know just what is expected, who come to the alter and receive and re-receive the HG with plenty-o'-really loud tongues... Some times they get baptized again too depending on who is doing the preaching or evangelizing and how they want their numbers to look.

The kids from VBS who 'got the HG' during that week and get baptized in a group, very few really having much of an idea of what was supposed to have happened to them. I am sure a few will go on to live for God but with the homes some of these kids live in they sure are going to have an uphill battle.

So, it's hard to put a number on... Forty maybe? I can promise you one thing though... we did not have forty souls 'added to the church' in any meaningful way.

Oh and medium/large sized church.

Yes, that's in the Jackson church. I don't know the numbers from the other campuses.

We have more people get the Holy Ghost in our church than in a lot of traditional Pentecostal churches, because we tell them it's a gift to be received and everyone should want it. We don't tell them it's a heaven/hell issue, which tends to make people seek it frantically, in my opinion. They lose the whole focus.

Seriously? You should seriously consider edifying saints and lifting up truth.

We believe in the neccessity of the Holy Ghost. However, we teach it as an awesome gift that completely changes one's life. We teach it as a part of salvation experience but more emphasis is placed on the greatness of the gift rather than the consequence of not receiving.

We live in a rural area and our average sunday morning size is around 70.

We had about 8 receive the Holy Ghost. 7 of them are faithfully attending the church. A handful of backsliders coming back in, all of which are still attending. Had several others who had powerful experiences with God but are still in the valley of decision. I believe approximately 16 baptisms.

So you're saying you sneak in the back door with what you believe :treadmill:

NO. We place more of an emphasis on the positive side of something than the negative. We don't avoid the negative side, just try to be positive in our approach. Which is what I have seen in most Apostolic churches.

That is the way that I have always been taught, and I endeavor to do the same. We tell them that there is absolutely nothing like it.

None filled last year, but we did baptize one. My Mom is teaching her Bible studies, and she is getting an ever increasing hunger for it. We know that it is a matter of time.

Amen! That is the way that I have always heard it taught and preached. No trickery, but nevertheless always explained.

Per my Pastor Rob McKee: ‎2011 @ POK: 180 HG 141 H20 Let's celebrate what Heaven does...to God be the glory! Sis Kelli...last Year's numbers were considerably higher. Part of that is due to our reaching seating capacity in the sanctuary early in the year and also having service in the gym for two months. It's okay...i'm believing God will help us to make those numbers double this year
