Living in sub-tropical southeast Texas roaches are a very real concern. You can accidentally bring them home from the grocery store hiding in things or in something picked up at a garage sale. All one needs is for a roach carrying eggs to get loose in your house and it will quickly turn into thousands of roaches living in furniture and appliances and crawling in kitchen cupboards. I have been blessed to be roach free for some three decades even as my grown children have moved in and out of Houston apartments and back home. When I saw the little bug that moves in crazy circles like a roach my heart rate elevated, my blood pressure rose and I almost put my thumb through my laptop screen.... then I laughed hysterically! |

I nearly whacked my parents' computer monitor when I first saw that thing. I just happened to notice that it was in a consistent pattern and only showed on occasion. I hate bugs, and most especially arachnids.

June Beetles Conscripted Into Cyborg Army
Green June beetles beware: The draft never ended. You may be called upon to serve your country. Military, commercial and academic defense research teams have been busy turning beetles and bees into cybugs, eeny-weeny cyborgs that will serve as unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) -- tiny, living versions of drone aircraft. From surveillance and explosives detection to search and rescue missions, micro UAVs could be useful for a range of defense and security applications. They would have proved handy last year for monitoring the flooding in Pakistan and Thailand, or for inspecting the ravaged Fukushima Daiichi nuclear plant after Japan’s earthquake -- disaster areas where a micro UAV could be deployed rather than risk human life.
