The Rising Cost Of Barbers.

Is it just me,but I gather this economy has affected Barbers too.
I hate to pay 10 or 12 bucks for a trim, seeing how I don't have that much hair to begin with.

I was going to try one place out,but my goodness they charge 16 bucks.
Maybe I'm just cheap.

My barber hasn't raised her price in 34 years.

Only 16 bucks? I have to pay the "stylist" 18 and then I still feel obligated to give her an extra $5 tip every 5 weeks. It’s just the price you gotta pay to look like a good apostolic preacher these days, lol.:preach

I guess I'm just cheap. There is one fellow in my area who is a retired barber,he has a little shop but he is only open on Wednesday from 6:30 to 12 and he charges 5 bucks, but I can't always catch him,and his health is getting bad.

$20 every 2 wks. I'm cheap.

Re: The Rising Cost Of Barbers.

I go about every 3 to 4 wks,and get a trim.

Scott, consider $12 a bargain. My niece is a stylist at one of the top salons in Nashville and she gets around $75 per haricut / style and $300 for dying hair.

IMO, men with half a head of hair should be given a discount. haha

Re: The Rising Cost Of Barbers.

I pay about $15 along with a 3-5 tip. I save money by only going every 3 months or so so it is REALLY short at first then starts looking a little 70ish towards the end.

Strange, that is the same commitment that my Dad made to his barber (although she started doing his hair within the last 15 years or so).

I go to a barber college and get a nice cut for $6.

The place I go isn't super consistent BUT if you were to walk out the back door, you'd be about 150 feet from our house. So to me convenience goes a long long way. :)

My barber has a special, no-extra-cost service: she lets me know when it's time for a cut. ;)

That's what my husband asks every barber and they turn him down, saying "A head is a head".

I learned to cut my husband's hair and it looks just as good as when the barber does it.

Some Barbers don't block the hair in the back very good.

Nobody can tell the difference when I cut his hair. It's not hard to block 3 inches of head space. :heeheehee

I went to Sally Beauty Supply and got clippers with the attachments and cut my own hair. I usually go get a real haircut every three or four months.

I haven't been to a barber in 10 to 15 years. I cut my own hair with a RoboCut. It's used in conjunction with a vacuum cleaner so there is no mess. It takes about 5 minutes and I get a perfect cut every time! I cut my hair as often as I want and never have to make an appointment. It cost about 50 bucks and you need a good strong vac. I use a shop vac, works great. http://haircut.com/buyR28.html

Someone snapped this picture during my first, and last, experience with a robot hair cutter.

8 bucks + 2 bucks for a tip....and I look marvelous :thumbsup

The shop has two big leather couches and chairs and a big screen.

Young barber probably under 30.

Dude I am right there with ya! I go about ever 2 to 2.5 months between cuts and get it cut really short. we pay about the same.

I would go longer but my hair grows FAST.

Scary. I remember the "flowbee" which was the same principle. More power to you if you pull this off but I have to wonder just what your hair looks like.

This is socialism. They undercharge for men that have long, thick, and course or kinky hair.

I've never complained about the barber's fee since he reminded me that the sign said "Hair" Cut $15, and NOT "Hairs" Cut.... he reminded me of the bargain he gives me for not charging for all of the other "hairs" he had always been cutting for free.

I laughed at that.

I do not make enough money to justify a $15 haircut. I switched to a different facility when the barber I was going to raised his price by a dollar twice. When I quit, he was charging around $8-10, and I was driving nearly half and hour for it. I switched, and I have been happy ever since. I am always welcomed, and they know who I am. I feel more liked there than I ever did with the old barber.

Sadly, I have to get my hair cut every 8-12 weeks as I lose track of it after a time. I used to get it cut every two weeks, but I kept losing track and going in every 8-10 weeks. At that point my hair was long enough to be embarassing. I started getting it cut short, letting it grow for several weeks, and then about the time it gets just a little too long, I go in for another cut. It saves time and money.

Yeah, same principle, but not the same. I get a better cut than I ever got from any barber. Perfect cut every time. Been pulling it off for over a decade. Works for me.

Re: The Rising Cost Of Barbers.

I get my hair cut once a month. I served as a Military Policeman in the US Army, and one of the requirements was that you must always maintain a "white sidewall," a phrase which implied very little to no hair on the sides.

I wear glasses so I've grown accustomed to using the ear pieces as a guage... if my hair grows long enough to begin to curl along them, its off to the barber.

In my previous post I stated that the sign said "Hair Cut $15." Truth be told, I am not sure what he charges, its just that for the past 20+ years I've always given him that amount, and he's never complained. I use the same barber because I never have to tell him how I want it cut. Of course, that's probably a no-brainer for him now that the amount growing there seems to be less and less with the advancing years.
