Sister talk

Since I've had chemo, and my hair is growing back out, I've been looking for the perfect shampoo/conditioner etc, to keep my hair in good shape. (my hair is very fragile)

I found some home made shampoos/rinses on the internet that are just wonderfull and wanted to share with my Sisters.

Since I've been doing this, my hair is soft, tangle free, has more body, it looks healthier, and it's not breaking.

Shampoo:
1 egg
some RO water, or distilled water
some vinegar

Rinse:
RO water, or distilled water
some vinegar

work the "shampoo" into your hair and then use the rinse. Your hair will come out silky, soft, manageable, tangle free, conditioned, and with body.

if you want to lighten it a bit, and lemon juice, and there are other herbs, essential oils and things you can add for different desired results.

If any of you know any good beauty/health tips, please share them here.

Thanks for sharing this Amanah! We have really hard water here, and I was thinking just the other day what to do with my hair, because it seems to have collected all the residue from the hard water. I am going to try this recipe for shampoo. Thanks again for sharing!

Re: Sister talk

this will get the residue out of your hair after 3 shampoos, we have well water also, and it is bad for your hair, makes it break off.

Good recipe. Just want to add that using Bragg's apple cider vinegar to rinse might be a tad better than distilled vinegar because it has all the nutrients called "the mother" still in it.

When I was a child, my Mom used vinegar on our hair. Conditioned it and made it tangle free. This was before creme rinses and conditioners.
What is RO water?

Re: Sister talk

RO - reverse Osmosis, it purifies our well water.

I quit washing my hair years ago. I use a boar bristle brush to clean my hair and scalp and warm water to rinse it and cool water to seal the cuticle. My pony tail went from being about 2 inches around to over 4 inches around and you could swing from my hair it is so strong. I believe that it would grow to my feet if I let it.

Interesting thoughts on not washing one's hair. I may have to read up on it some more. Thanks for sharing T2W.

Ha, i felt led to quit washing my hair years ago, for some reason still weird to me, and do the minimum now to keep the oil down. I'm curious, a boar bristle brush, and water as hot as you can stand, or what? How would a boar bristle clean hair, or rather remove the oil (that for all I know shouldn't be removed)? I wasn't able to continue with just hot water, as my hair was just totally flat after? Of course, that was then...ty, maybe i should just watch the link, but that takes special maneuvers for me, lol.

Thanks Amanah!

But, can you give me an idea of how much vinegar/water to use with the one egg? Do you just mix it all up to the consistency of shampoo? Is it for one shampoo?

Amanah 02-23-2012 01:25 PM

Re: Sister talk

for one shampoo mix together:
1 egg
1/4 cup vinegar
and enough distilled water to saturate your hair

then

add another 1/4 cup vinegar to a tumbler of distilled water to rinse your hair

if you don't have hard water/well water, just use tap water.

Another question.........what about the vinegar smell?
Will my hair smell like a pickle?

I wondered the same thing. It does smell like vinegar while it is wet, but then you can't smell it at all after it dries. I have really fine thin hair. I couldn't believe it was the same hair after I did this. It felt so thick and full, it was amazing! We went out with friends that night, and several asked me what I had done with my hair, because it looked so full and bouncy, instead of just limp, and straight. In fact, the next weekend, my daughter and some of her friends had me do their hair with the vinegar.

We are on well water here, and I think that was part of the problem with my hair breaking off. It is growing back now, and I am so excited.

Good luck!

Oh one other thing... have a towel for your eyes when you are rinsing and washing, because if the vinegar gets in your eyes, it burns!
