Joyful Noise

Went today and saw the Dolly Parton/Queen Latifa movie "Joyful Noise." Anybody here that has seen the movie, what are your thoughts about the childrens choir that sings and the little boy singing lead speaking in tongues? I'm going to try to post the video from Youtube of the song. The part I'm referring to is shortly after the 3 minute mark. Just wondering others feelings on this,if anyone here has seen the movie....

Did not see the movie. I heard that on the audio. What is your question really?

Was the movie worth watching? A local Pastor's wife said they were going to watch it last week. I thought I might watch it sometime...

I watched it a few week ago. It's a good movie. The tongues surpised me. I don't know if it was scripted. It's possible that the choirs were worshiping God. The movie is good for something out of Hollywood.

I agree with Houston, the tongue part did surprise me. Some of the others with me were upset and felt it was "sacreligous" or disrespectful, but I'm not sure if it was or if that was more the feelings of "no one is right but us" conditioning that has been ingrained through the years, the skepticism toward those who don't fit our pattern?

Will,

They may have felt that it was scripted.

I saw the movie. The storyline is pretty predictable. But the music was GREAT!

As far as the little boy speaking in tongues: I'm not sure anyone else in the theater even noticed it when I went. I didn't hear a single comment made about it. I know that the ladies who went with me didn't notice at all. I guess they just thought it was part of the script?? I think it stuck out to me because of my background. But maybe if you didn't come from our kind of history, you wouldn't even notice. Or at least think much of it. For us, there is something very sacred about the act of speaking in tongues. For the general population, they don't even understand it, so how can they be expected to understand that the holiness associated?

The movie reminded me of The Fighting Temptations.

They serve alcohol at a theater? Must be a southern thing, eh?

I saw it with my daughter-in-law.

It was a good movie although I am not much for church choirs who sing in contests. Dolly had her choir robe "fitted" to her figure while the rest of the singers wore theirs loose and flowing.

Go figure, no pun intended. :heeheehee
She's got to be different, I guess.
