Anybody Reading The Bible Through ?

Is anybody here reading the Bible through this year ?
If so are you reading The KJV or another translation and are you using a daily Bible plan ?

I am reading The Holman Christian Standard Bible through,I'm supposed to be reading 4 chapters in the OT. and 4 in the NT everyday but most of the time I do more than this. I'm in Numbers already and in John too, plus I listen to the audio Bible back and to from work.

To answer the question, not since I was a teen. I have read the NT through several times. I'm more of a NT kind of guy.

Last yr I ordered a NLT. I planned to read the OT in that version. It's great, it reads more like a story. Well, a kid (19 yrs old) at work was a new "christian" and he didn't have a bible. So, I gave him the NLT. He wanted to pay for it. I said, "No, no. The word of God is not for sale."

Yes, I am reading through the Bible. Right now I'm in Psalms and almost finished with the NT. I'm using a parallel Bible with KJV as my foundation. The other two translations I am using this year are the NLT and Amplified. Would never use the NLT as my foundational reading. Some of the NLT is very clear and awesome in some of it's translation, but other times it takes great liberties, which I don't like at all.

Re: Anybody Reading The Bible Through ?

I have read the Bible through many times, and read whole books at a time. I find this is more helpful than reading several chapters of different books throughout the year. I tried doing the Bible reading plan, but found that if one day I fell behind, it would get discouraging. I then tried just reading books at a time, and that was wonderful. It was amazing the insight received when reading whole books at a time. Some days I read more, some less, and I don't feel so overwhelmed if one day I don't have time to read as much. I usually read at least one book in the OT and one in the NT.

Yes, we have been reading the Bible straight through for many years... mostly KJV.

For the past few years we have read the NKJV; NLT, NIV, ESV & used the plans from www.blueletterbible.org: One-Year Plans... Canonical, Chronological, Historical, Old Testament and New Testament Together.

This year we are reading the NASB Bible - Blended plan. We also use the Audio Bibles!

I read Tyndale's "The One Year Bible" (KJV) every year for many years now. Each day has a reading in the OT, one in the NT, Psalms and Proverbs.

I'm trying to read the KJV through, starting with the new testament. I'm in Romans right now.

I am reading the Bible through this year as well, I want to catch myself up because I am fairly far behind right now (did not get a chart until a few days ago). I will probably use a combination of the KJV, NKJV, and the ESV. It will depend on which I have closest to hand when I am doing my reading.

I have read the KJV all the way through, I have used NIV for devotional reading for years. Currently, I'm reading through the Epistles using NKJV, and I really like this translation!

I'm reading the Bible thru this year (ESV) and using "Table Talk's" program. I'm also listening to the passages as I read them and using Max Mclean's audio. Fantastic!

As a family we're on our fifth (or sixth? lost count) year of reading through the whole Bible (KJV). The reading plan we use is one I developed for our family's use. It's pretty intensive - Two readings per day (morning and evening), each reading contains an OT and a NT part, and a Psalm.

We each take turns reading chapters, and we take turns on the verses of Psalms. My 8 yr old participates as well. There is nothing like daily reading in the King James Bible to build up a child's reading and vocabulary skills. Seriously.

Re: Anybody Reading The Bible Through ?

Well I tried to find my copy of our schedule to post here in case anyone wanted to try it, but unfortunately it's a word document and somehow crashed and I can't open it up. Thankfully we have a hard printed copy. I'll have to scan it and save it as a pdf. I do NOT want to have to recreate the thing, it took literally WEEKS to figure it out with way more math than I planned on ever using once I left high school. :)

Basically, the am reading is from the Pentateuch, a Psalm, and a Gospel reading. The pm reading is from the OT, a Psalm, and a NT reading. The Gospels, Psalms, and NT are read through once every 89 days. The Pentateuch is read through twice a year, and the rest of the OT is read through once a year. This leaves 9 days in the year with no designated reading (thus you get nine days every year to miss a reading due to whatever without falling behind and needing to double up or catch up).

The am readings are generally shorter (1 chapter from Moses, 1 chapter from the Gospels, and 1 Psalm), whereas the pm readings are usually one or two chapters from the OT, a Psalm, and 1 or 2 chapters from the NT

I find this in the bold to be very true. As a family we don't really have a reading plan, but we read the Bible together as a family on Mondays. We pick a book we want to read, and 8 of us (5 adults, and 3 children 11 years old and under) would read a chapter each. The youngest child that is reading is 7 years old, but she was reading with us when she was in kindergarten at 5. And she reads extremely well, especially for her age.

Yes indeed! It's really good that the whole family gets together to read God's Word. You are building memories in those young-uns that will last a lifetime, and will always be with them. Hopefully, they will continue the tradition with their own children. Lord knows they're gonna need it!

Re: Anybody Reading The Bible Through ?

I am probably on my 10th. year of reading the NT through in a year. I read a chapter a day 5 days a week - Monday - Friday. It works best for me. I know it is not as much as
some of you are doing. I also have memory verses that I quote daily. I take notes on each chapter as if I were studying. Of course, I find something new each time that I read it. I learned this method from a Christian forum some years ago and it works for me. Sometimes I read ahead and some days I get behind but I keep a weekly chart so I can mark it off as I read it. I have tried a couple different version and end up going back to KJV.

Re: Anybody Reading The Bible Through ?

We're reading through the NKJV this year using a chronological reading plan. For the past two years we read the M'Cheyne plan (with 4 readings per day). The first year was KJV and last year was ESV.

We read aloud every night as a family. There are four of us and each person reads one of the four readings.
