WND EXCLUSIVE 20% OF REPUBLICANS LEANING TO OBAMA! 2012 election looks like replay of 2008 Published: 2 days ago inShare 41 Text smaller Text bigger Editor’s note: This is another in a series of “WND/WENZEL POLLS” conducted exclusively for WND by the public-opinion research and media consulting company Wenzel Strategies. WASHINGTON – For critics of Barack Obama, 2012 has been portrayed as a do-or-die year for the country – an election that will determine whether America stays on the road to European-style socialism or veers right to reclaim its positions as the most vibrant economy in the world and the home of individual liberty. But the 2012 election is looking more like a replay of 2008 than a do-over. The latest WND/Wenzel Poll shows none of the current crop of Republican presidential candidates has solidified the base of the party, with one in five GOP voters leaning toward support of Obama in November. The results are from the public-opinion research and media consulting company Wenzel Strategies. The poll was conducted by telephone Feb. 1-3, 2012, and has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.44 percentage points. Here’s a plan for solving the problem of Washington: “A Simple Government: Twelve Things We Really Need from Washington (and a Trillion That We Don’t!)” “The improvement in Obama’s prospects compared to the four remaining Republican challengers stems largely from two factors,” suggests pollster Fritz Wenzel. “First, Obama has largely avoided the political limelight while the GOP candidates savage each other with increasing intensity. Second, a smattering of evidence indicates that the economy is getting a little better, which helps the White House in the eyes of the voters. Secondly, the bloody fight for the Republican presidential nomination – by most estimations the nastiest GOP fight in memory – has really hurt the images of the challengers in the eyes of both Republicans and, especially, independent voters. For Republicans, each candidate carries with them now some taint that cannot be ignored.” In every case except the match-up against Ron Paul, more than 20 percent of Republican voters said they are more likely to support Obama than the Republican challenger. And Ron Paul is close, as 19 percent of Republicans said they are more likely to support Obama than Paul. Making the situation more bleak for opponents of Obama, independent voters are apparently quite put off with the Republican nomination fight. While polls last fall showed them leaning Republican by roughly a two-to-one margin, they are now either split evenly or favoring Obama. “What must be particularly alarming to every Republican campaign regarding this nasty fight is that, even among those who say they think the nation is heading in the wrong direction, Obama still wins at least 20 percent support in head-to-head match-ups against the four remaining Republicans, and among those who said they were unsure about the overall direction of the nation, Obama wins by overwhelming percentages,” observes Wenzel. Obama also has made tremendous inroads on enemy territory against each of the four Republicans, winning roughly 20 percent support among conservatives and even those who consider themselves to be very conservative. And, even against Mitt Romney, considered by many to be the most moderate of the GOP bunch, Obama defeats him by a large margin among moderate voters. “Obama has masterfully positioned himself to lower expectations among the electorate in terms of economic progress, and has sat idly by while Republicans – mostly Romney and Newt Gingrich – destroy each other’s reputations,” said Wenzel. “While the Obama-Clinton nomination battle lasted well into the spring four years ago, it never got as nasty as this year’s fight between Romney and Gingrich, which now appears to be very personal in nature. Obama was able to recover nicely by the time the general election campaign rolled around. If either Romney or Gingrich wins the nomination – and that is a long way from being determined – it is doubtful either will recover to full strength by the fall campaign. This poll indicates that it is more the negativity of the Republican nomination fight and less the small improvement in the economy that has changed the national political landscape.” Barack Obama It does help Obama that the recent upbeat economic news appears to have buoyed spirit nationwide. One third of respondents – 34 percent — said Obama has exceeded expectations during his first term in office, while another 20 percent said he has performed as expected. Less than half – 47 percent – said he has fallen short of their expectations for him as president. Among independents, 60 percent said Obama has either met or exceeded expectations. Among political moderates, 52 percent said the same thing. Obama would defeat all of the four Republicans if the election were held today, but Ron Paul fares the best against the incumbent. Obama leads Paul, 44 percent to 40 percent, with 16 percent undecided. “This is likely a reflection of discontent over Obama’s handling of the economy and, in particular, his outsized appetite for deficit spending,” observed Wenzel. “Paul has far and away offered the clearest and most serious plan to cut federal spending, and it appears to be recognized by these survey respondents.” Romney also is within single digits of Obama, currently trailing, 48 percent to 41 percent. Obama leads both Gingrich and Rick Santorum Santorum by double-digits. Obama leads Gingrich, 50 percent to 36 percent, and Santorum, 49 percent to 34 percent. |

I really do not see this as very surprising. If the Republican party cannot find anyone worthy to run for President...why bother wasting tax dollars for an election?

Re: Shocker! 20% OF REPUBLICANS PLAN TO VOTE OBAM
Yeah why waste tax dollars, we need that money to buy people appliances, cars and mortgages.

Re: Shocker! 20% OF REPUBLICANS PLAN TO VOTE OBAM
I think it is sad what has been offered for choices for quite some time now. Anyone who is truely qualified for President, does not seem to want the job. But who can blame them?

Re: Shocker! 20% OF REPUBLICANS PLAN TO VOTE OBAM
I would vote for Colin Powell. I really do not know of any other man in this country right now that I would consider to be of real leadership material.

Current pres is proof you don't have to be qualified to get elected.

Re: Shocker! 20% OF REPUBLICANS PLAN TO VOTE OBAM
I am going to step on a limb and cut it off behind me. I do not trust this poll. My gut instinct tells me that it is unreliable. Especially as Obama insists upon allienating demographics that he must have large minorities in to win.
He has destroyed any support he had in the pro-life/marriage/family circles. He is rapidly making an enemy of the RCC and forcing an alliance of conservative evangelicals and fundamentalists with them. The Jewish vote is weaker in his favor than it has been in recent history. He is also causing white men (whom he also needs) to suppport others. Further, this is only the primaries and the fight against Obama has yet to truly begin. I am going to predict that anyone who comes out the victor will emerge with a party that is more or less unified, and at the very least wanting to destroy Obama. If this candidate is Romney or Gingrich, the greatest danger is that the base will stay home. To counter this, strong conservatives must be run in House and Senate races. This will energize the base, and could aid the party nominee in getting the victory. |

If Romney or ginrich win and choose the other as vice prez then they really do have a good shot at licking Obama.

The bottom line is that my party has not put anyone out there that is worth voting for (once Gingrich is out of the picture.) I think the shadowy powers that be don't expect Romney to win against Obama but, maybe a Romney loss will help set up a more convincing win for a stronger conservative in 2016. Romney really doesn't represent our Party. |

Hey JD, still waiting on a reply on the thread "where is jd" in the fellowship hall.
But since you are here, I will copy and post it here. "Glad your are happy about the Super Bowl! I had no real strong feelings one way or another, but I was pulling for the Giants. Now to matters at hand! In an attempt to cut this short, I started this because you stated you would be voting for BHO over Romney. Is that really the case or were you just going for the attention grabber? If not, here is the long reply. 1. Can you define the good that has come out of his administration? No I would not vote for Romney, just because he is white. However, if 95% of the white voters voted for Romney, then I would think that their decision might be somewhat based in a racial bias. 2. Instead of throwing adjectives around, give me something to justify your opinion. 3. If you really do not see this, then you need some more research. Look at 4 & 5 for further details. 4. I will try to keep this short, I could do an entire letter on this issue, but for the sake of interest. The BHO administration is now requiring employers to offer their employees full contraceptive and reproductive options in their health insurance plans. Many churches and especially the Catholic church are opposed to contraception and to reproductive options (abortion). The churches/universities/hospitals will now have to make decisions whether to follow the governments mandate or to follow what they believe are God's laws. You can read more about the debate by googling or here: http://theweek.com/article/index/223...h-vs-obamacare 5. One of the first acts of the BHO administration was to began funding abortions overseas and to lift restrictions on abortions. More info here: http://www.reuters.com/article/2009/...50M3PQ20090123 6. The BHO administration is economically inept. Because they have little to no experience in the private sector, they are lost on what their role should be. Either that or they are deliberately making us like the European model, which has already shown that it is economically unsustainable. Unfortunately, the government wants to not be government, but wants to tell us what morality we should have. Another example of what this government has supported in adopting of children by same-sex couples. This has, again, put some church adoption agencies out of business, because they will not permit this. You as a Gingrich supporter should know all about this. 7. Just to stay focused. Are you really voting for BHO? 8. See above... Later." You really intend to vote for this facist/socialist???? |
Re: Shocker! 20% OF REPUBLICANS PLAN TO VOTE OBAM
I find that very hard to believe, but I put no stock in any polls as they are worded to get the response they want.
I can't imagine anyone with just a little bit of intelligence voting for BO a second time. His silver tongue swayed many to believe his lies but surely by now they have seen the through his lies. There may not be a perfect candiate to run against him, but as of now anyone would be better than he is. JMO |
Re: Shocker! 20% OF REPUBLICANS PLAN TO VOTE OBAM
There have got to be a lot of conservatives out there that don't believe birth control is wrong, or that gay marriage is wrong (on a legal level), or that abortion is wrong in every case. As the right shifts further away from those (and others) views, those conservatives find themselves leaning more towards the liberal side of things. They are not necessarily liberals, they are just not as extreme as their party seems to be. In that situation, I can see some conservatives voting for a democrat over an extreme republican.
America becoming more secular might be a reason also. People might not want to vote for a candidate that gets their political inspiration from only one type of religion, or a candidate that wants to conform America to their particular religion. As Americans become more tolerant and accepting, it makes sense that they would move further away from the "religious" party. As others on here have noted, the lack of a solid, defined Republican candidate is hurting them right now, as well. |
