Whitney Houston - Link to LIVE Funeral Coverage

Whitney Houston is dead at age 48. How sad! She had such an amazing voice. I truly wish she would have used it more for the Kingdom and not gotten so messed up with the world.

It is so sad. Especially, when she started in the church - such a wasted life.

I think she really had some mixed messages right from the beginning. Her mother was known as a gospel singer but also had a nightclub career. She was related to several people in show business and was involved herself from her teen years.

It really is a tragedy. No one is promised tomorrow, but I don't say it like most people do. Usually they mean it for you to personalize it to yourself which is true, but your neighbor, co-worker, friend, family member, etc... are not promised tomorrow either. Go and preach the gospel before it's to late for them.

Her downfall started with Bobbie Brown and drugs.

I believe she started singing at age 11 in the junior choir of New Hope Babtist Church in NJ

She was a beautiful woman with a beautiful clear voice for a black lady. It no doubt was a talent given by God. She like so many others that we known as singers, like Jerry Lee, Elvis, George Jones, and the list goes on. Most of these people brought up in a gospel environment then lead astray by deceit into a world of despair.
The love for money! No doubt it is the root of ALL evil.

Houston was a mezzo-soprano.Her vocal range extended from G below middle C (G3) to high B-flat (B♭5); she could belt out to treble F (F5).vs the only who can come close to her in range IMO http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8UypHA-bXXY

Whitney is one of those cases of somebody becoming a druggie that I just don't understand;

* She was raised in church so had a God awareness
* Came from a loving family
* Had an unbelievable amount of God given talent
* That talent brought her wealth, admiration, and fame.

Usually we hear that people become drug addicts because of their hopeless circumstances, no knowledge of God, parental examples or lack of parental examples, etc. Whitney had EVERYTHING going for her.

Among her inexplicable life choices that brought her personal destruction I hope other young women will look at her life and see the consequences of marrying someone who is destructive to you. Particularly if you are already destructive to yourself.

Whitney Houston brought so much pleasure into my life through her music. When healthy and at her peak her voice was like no other. It saddens me greatly that she lost her way and it seems never found her way back.

So sad to hear of her death.
I pray for her family,

You can't ever understand why people do drugs. You can blame it on disorders, blame it on upbringing, blame it on anything you want. But sometimes, in the end, it just gives you a feeling that you can't feel anywhere else, or at that level of feeling that fast.

She flew on our plane coming back from Hong Kong about three or four years back. She had her daughter and a whole entourage with her in First Class. We were in the cheap seats in the back. She looked so rough; it made me really sad.

If she was not saved and if she called on the name of the Lord in that hotel room during the last minute of her life she will have been saved!

She drowned in the bathtub. There were prescription bottles and pills scattered. The toxicology reports will be released in a few weeks.

She had an absolutely amazing voice. God did use her. I get the sense that the Lord wanted her gift for himself, and that was she had was a special gift from God himself. It's absolutely a shame what will happen when you let the Devil use what God's given you. Bobby was probably one of the worst things that could've happen to her. My prayers go for her family and those millions she effected.

"For A Black Lady" Please explain. As black lady who sings, I'm not sure what this means.

Hopefully, you didn't mean it the way it sounds.
Her voice was beautiful like many African American women and men.

I think you're over-analyzing, warrior. :) A lot of black singers have a throaty or raspy quality to their voices--a sound which I like, btw. Whitney's voice leaned more in the higher-pitched pop direction than soul. Austin can answer for himself, obviously, but that was how I understood his remark.

Re: Whitney Houston Dead!

I I beg to differ, Miss Brattfield. We've all heard raspy from other persuasions as well. I don't think the part about "A BLACK LADY" was necessary.

I'm sure that is how you understood the remark. As a BLACK LADY, I prefer some clarity on the intentions of the statement. Raspy voices are not secluded to any race of people.

probably meant for a black lady her voice was clear., doesnt have to meant comment is racial.

Like if a black person says that white boy sure is fast. Doesn't mean they are being racial, IMO.

I really do appreciate you trying to justify the statement. However, in my opinion statements like that are stereotypes and rooted in igorance. That is like saying that just because I'm black all I eat is fried chicken. Therefore, when I make and serve baked chicken I receive a compliment that says, that baked chicken sure was good to be prepared by a black woman.

In other words, we are all human and have the same anatomy and raspy voices don't happen bacause you are black.

Let's limit the ignorant generalizations and look at individual people and their ability and talent.

I think they refering to high pitch type voice. Seems as if your wearing your race on your shoulder.

No, but they are common to blues and soul, genres which are comprised predominately of black artists, so I understand the generalization whether I support its accuracy or not.

Usually a raspy voice in a white person means they're smokers. It doesn't occur that often naturally, in my observation--although I have heard a few. Adele comes to mind.

NOT sure how u can make that generalization when one of your 'heros', Sis McGruder had a VERY rapsy voice as do many other wonderful white singers as well as other races. She had an amazing voice for anyone regardless of race

Because it's a generalization, and obviously there are exceptions. ;)

P.S. Why did you put "hero" in quotes? You didn't admire Sis. McGruder? And yes, she had a very raspy voice.

Odd how you can't post anything on this forum without bring the M's into it.

That is like me saying well ----- (insert name) had great dance moves to be a white girl. Whether you understand it or not, the statement is ignorant, stereotypical and racist. So for those who say "good grief" I tototally get it. Hopefully the folks that you admire does it well to be whatever race they are.
