Somewhat Newly Apostolic

Hello. I just wanted to introduce myself. I not to long ago became apart of the apostolic faith. I was born and raised in the church but was somewhat different from apostolic. I am currently stationed in Korea and am struggling to stay true. So I guess I joined this forum to seek encouragement and for guidance to help me along this journey while away...

Hi! Great mix here, I look forward to your input! Ps, I've only been here about a month, former Baptist, still not quite sure what "Apostolic" means, if there is an official def...beyond the intuitive? So, just by way of intro (they even let Catholics post here : )

The greatest thing I hope you learn from everyone here is. . . . seek out your own salvation with fear and trembling.

Keep your mind open. Don't stab something down you hear just because you never heard it before. And be encouraged! You're living for the Lord, what can come against you?

Re: Somewhat Newly Apostolic

Apostolic ... meaning doctrine of the Apostles. You can read in the gospes many times that Jesus called His Apostles in private, and expounded to them the scriptures. John 14:22 "Judas (not Iscariot) Ask Jesus, why manifest yourself to us, and not the word?"...Apostolic doctrine, is what Jesus taught the Apostles. I"ve known Apostolic since 1981, but became a backslider because of "loving this present world"...Glad that God had mercy on me, and brought me back. I'm still learning the true meaning of Repentance, Baptism in Jesus name, and the power of the Holy Ghost with evidence in speaking in tongues. Also, "No man cometh unto the Father but by Me'...so much to learn. God's word is more important than my natural food.

Amen! Oh wait, sorry, "evidence of speaking in tongues" has no return in a Bible search...but otherwise, Amen!

Did you want me to show you the verses that shows right after the people received the Holy Ghost, they spake in an unknown tongue ? One instance I know off the top of my head was when Peter came to the house of Cornelius.
Acts 10:
44 Even as Peter was saying these things, the Holy Spirit fell upon all who had heard the message.
45 The Jewish believers who came with Peter were amazed that the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out upon the Gentiles, too.
46 And there could be no doubt about it, for they heard them speaking in tongues and praising God.Then Peter asked, 47 "Can anyone object to their being baptized, now that they have received the Holy Spirit just as we did?"
48 So he gave orders for them to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ. (NLT)

Ah, you'll note that, having already occurred in the upper room, and in the court of the Jews, the Holy Spirit expressed tongues to the Gentiles here; connecting them all, and with Christ. Curiously, these are the only three examples, and one might say that the purpose of the expression of tongues in these instances--which I'm understanding as speaking one's own language while being heard in the hearer's native tongue, and not babbling--was to provide a bonafide connection to Christ for all.

This is an old scab, and I don't want to pick it, but reiterate
that the Apo/Pent phrase "...with evidence..." is lacking...evidence, sorry.
I certainly believe tongues is a gift, that one may or may not get, as evidenced red-letter, and wish you all the best.
