Carpel Tunnel

Anyone else ever have to deal with it? Just typing this feels like someone shot a small nail into the top of my left hand (between the pointy finger and thumb, half way to the wrist).

You should probably stop typing...

I is the bulk of what I do all day. LOL And the % of typing I do HERE is very tiny compared to what I am doing at work.

You can get a carpal tunnel brace at the drug store. Sometimes that helps. Antiinflammatories are usually also be helpful too, sometimes helping to reduce the swelling that causes the pain.

I took a couple of ibuprofen this morning -it helped a little, it sure made my headache go away! But the wrist is still hurting. :(

I am waiting on this to strike me as I have the same work requirments as you. Have you tried one of those gel pads that you put in front of your keyboard for your wrist to rest on? It eases my pain at times.

Taking the ibuprofen on a daily regular basis for two weeks are standard instructions most docs give you when treating carpal tunnel. And using a wrist splint. Those are the conservative avenues of treatment. If after two weeks of trying a wrist splint or night brace, and the anti-inflammatories, and you are no better, it is probably wise to seek out a physician's care.

I'm already being told surgery is my only option. As if the pain in my hand isn't enough. LOL

Lifting your fingers against resistance or opening a rubber band wrapped around them will engage muscles that are often neglected.

Yeah, sometimes I wake up at night because my hands are numb and hurting, throbbing. Very painful. And I was told I only have a slight case of it.

KBTW is right. You need to get the inflammation down and use one of those arm sleeves (brace) that can be bought at the drugstore. See if that helps. If not, you will have to go see the doctor who might (or might not) do something for you.

I will most definitely be using a brace. Luckily my right (mouse) hand is still working fine!

Actually my mother in law and my aunt have had this surgery. It is fairly simple with a short recovery. They both have been pain free since.

Yeah that hurts more than the surgery and the pain lasts longer too.

I've just recently had this start happening...not so much when I'm typing, but sharp pains in my right hand when I'm playing the organ at church. It must be the angle of my right hand when I'm reaching to the upper keyboard.

Hopefully a brace will help and you won't have to do the surgery, but I know several people who have had it done and it was a short recovery time. Do you know how much it would cost?

:rolleyes2

Got a brace for my left hand and wrist. Before, despite searing pain, I could still type. NOW I barely have any mobility and keep hitting the wrong keys with my left hand.

Thanks. Actually it is funny because I've been doing most of those already but maybe I need to do them in the order listed.

Try wearing it at night, and any time you are not typing. Have you found a gel pad for your wrist while you are typing?

Re: Carpel Tunnel

Have also heard of Oregano Oil that is a very powerful natural anti-inflammatory. Here is an article about it...

http://www.healingnaturallybybee.com/articles/anti6.php

Here is a short excerpt from the article.

Oil of Oregano is a Natural Anti–Inflammatory Medicine

An article published in Phyotherapy Research describes how oregano oil surpassed anti–inflammatory drugs in reversing pain and inflammation and that it is nearly as powerful as morphine as a painkiller.

In fact all Inflammation & Infection are Natural Healing Processes created by the body in order to maintain its health as best it can in spite of poor nutrition, an overload of toxins, damaging foods, etc.

Helps Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Bursitis, Carpet Tunnel, Sore Muscles, Sports Injuries, Backaches, etc.

Oil of Oregano is helpful because it penetrates the skin and reaches as far as the synovial fluid in joints, which helps alleviate arthritis, bursitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, sore muscles, sports injuries, and backaches because it helps pull toxins out. All forms of arthritis, including fibromyalgia, are caused by toxins—see Arthritis, Fibromyalgia, Rheumatoid Arthritis, Tendonitis & Related Diseases.

Rub a few drops of the mixture (50/50 mixture of oil of oregano and extra virgin olive oil) into the skin covering the affected areas.

Wearing the brace now and all I can say is "It hurtssssss us! It burnnsssss! It Burnnnnsssss! Please takes it offs usssss!"

OK, a bit dramatic maybe but it does have some sharp edges around the fingers that are doing exactly what I predicted they would do when I first put it on.... they feel like they are cutting into me.

Yeah, and she must use a memory foam mattress, for full recovery. Wait. What?

Randy,

I had my left hand done in June and my right hand done in October. Both are doing great!! I haven't completely worked up the strength in my right hand, but I'm working on it.

The surgery is nothing - - you can handle it!

Can't even tell I had surgery now!

had the surgery done.

PT suggest that if you place both palms together and push against them will help. You can feel the difference when doing it.

I also, personally, think if you do more pushups that would help. :)

The bulk of my hand pain came last week when pushing some hard wood panels down when we were redoing our floor. So I doubt that push ups would help......
