My first thots are: When a pastor personally selects each individual to be on the church board, and then they only meet one to two times a year, my thinking is the only reason they have a board is simply to to say/show that they have a board. |
Re: Church Boards ?
I don't believe in elections.
I believe in appointments by the Holy Spirit. |
Re: Church Boards ?
Elders are the board. They are all Pastors.

Re: Church Boards ?
We have a board at our church. The board members are NOT chosen by the pastor. Most of them are on because they are the heads of their respective committees (Finance, Deacons, Trustees, Men's Ministries, Women's Ministries, etc.). Two of us are on the board as "representatives of the church body" and are selected by the Nominating Committee. The Nominating Committee is selected by votes from the congregation at a congregational meeting once a year. Then the Nominating Committee chooses who goes on each of the different committees. But NONE - NO ONE! - is appointed to anything by the pastor at our church.
Having the Board has been a huge blessing this year for us. We had to ask our pastor to leave 13 months ago. So the board has had to step up to the plate big time for this whole last year. Pray that we find the right pastor for us SOON. Thanks. |

Re: Church Boards ?
I can see a few areas where a church board might be able to be beneficial. However, most of the time a church board seems to be more of a hinderance than a help. This is especially true when they wish to tell the pastor what he can or can not preach, what he can or can not do, what improvements he is allowed to make, etc.
I know of one church board that fought the pastor building a fence across the back of the parsonage property, even though it would have increased the safety of the the pastor's children. The only time a church board is truly beneficial is when it comes time to select a new pastor. They should be solid men who are able to bring true men of God before the congregation. I have no problem with the church board being appointed by the pastor, and I believe that the pastor should be the chairman of the board. The pastor must answer to God for what he has taught the saints and led the church. Therefore he should have the authority and responsibilty without a board tying his hands. A board should only exist if it can in some way help the pastor. |

Re: Church Boards ?
How about outside church boards with messages, that sounds like an easier subject matter?? I have a ton of them in my private folder.
Recently one of the local pastors and church came under attack because he posted something about, gay is wrong. When are we going down to the strip bar and demonstrate outside? |

Church boards that have a message are perfectly acceptable. I have enjoyed a few of them from time to time myself. These are at their very best when they are unintentially amusing.:highfive |
