Hooray for Introverts!

I liked this. As an introvert, I could very much relate.

Ok, me too, and I haven't watched it yet, I'm way behind; but I hope it doesn't encourage any more introspection than Western Christianity already does?
(I'll be back...)

Well, if it's confession time... I gotta jump on this bandwagon too... I am an introvert, although I can easily switch into extrovert roles if necessary, but I am happiest being an introvert...

Yes, you are right indeed. Hiding your light under the bushel instead of shining it brightly .... it is definitely an introvert thing... I push myself out of my comfort zone daily into "extrovert" activities, although the "recharging" of my battery comes in my personal private time alone with the Lord. I can't have it any other way.

Love that. :) Forwarding to my beloved introverts (including my husband).

I am also introverted. I have a few people that I like to associate with, but I am generally not happy unless with a smaller group. (Not sure why I enjoy big conferences, except the possibility that there are a few possible friends there and of course Jesus.)

Definition: Contrary to what most people think, an introvert is not simply a person who is shy. In fact, being shy has little to do with being an introvert! Shyness has an element of apprehension, nervousness and anxiety, and while an introvert may also be shy, introversion itself is not shyness. Basically, an introvert is a person who is energized by being alone and whose energy is drained by being around other people.

Introverts are more concerned with the inner world of the mind. They enjoy thinking, exploring their thoughts and feelings. They often avoid social situations because being around people drains their energy. This is true even if they have good social skills. After being with people for any length of time, such as at a party, they need time alone to "recharge."

When introverts want to be alone, it is not, by itself, a sign of depression. It means that they either need to regain their energy from being around people or that they simply want the time to be with their own thoughts. Being with people, even people they like and are comfortable with, can prevent them from their desire to be quietly introspective.

Being introspective, though, does not mean that an introvert never has conversations. However, those conversations are generally about ideas and concepts, not about what they consider the trivial matters of social small talk.
Fits me to the T. Well, except on AFF. LOL

Actually, you are likely at home with very few people around you. Further you are enjoing mentally stimulating discussions with approximately 10 people at once, with out the stess of having to listen to everyone at the same time. In addition, you get to choose who you are going to reply to and who you are not. AFF is the perfect place for introverts to relax and recharge.

Sure. At least, we are not generally engaged in pointless small talk. Pointless ethereal discussion maybe.

Another mark for team INFJ here, and here's why...

writing > speaking
smaller crowd > larger crowd
lone country road > busy street/highway
music > book > television
baseball > football
golf > hockey
basketball > soccer
shadow > limelight
perfection > disarray (or, passively OCD)
unique/different > mainstream/popular

That's pretty much it in a nutshell for me...

Ha, what do you call an introvert who isn't necessarily uncomfortable in public, but more or less unaffected, although cognizant of it? Just sort of around things, without actually being engaged in them, kind of just independently demonstrating...hmm, independence, of a sort, freedom.

I think as long as the danger of...myopia? tunnel vision? is addressed, this is a superior walk.

I am split between INSJ and INSF. That is if I remember right. I will have to check the paperwork that I have on it.

By all means, recharge, but recognize.

Re: Hooray for Introverts!

An abundance of distractions encourages introversion and our religion encourages introspection. An excellent way to get vision here is to examine the extreme. Go into...the forest or somewhere in nature where you will be unlikely to meet anyone--some work in itself, I admit--and camp for a week. No phone, etc. Sensory deprivation (from your pov). Ha, better start with a day first. No books. No radio. No cheating.

You have most likely never just been in your whole life. You would be insane after a week of this cold turkey. And it is where God is, the ultimate recharge, imo.

BB: Yes, we need to stop and recognize just who we are, and yes, living a few days without distractions or necessities of life will bring you to your knees, to realize just how small and insignificant and weak we are, and who God really is, and how much we desperately need HIM.

It may come down to that very soon for all of us... if this country we live in continues on its downward path....
