What Kind of Tree Is This?

1 Attachment(s)
I've got a tree blooming in my front yard and can't figure out what kind it is. See pic below. I think it's some kind of cherry tree since it puts forth a fruit in the summertime that resembles a cherry...

Re: What Kind of Tree Is This?

There are like "false" cherry trees, you might best take a clipping to a nursery.

I think it may be some kind of dogwood tree. It's sure pretty.

You might ask T2W.

My thought that was a type of dogwood, but I am far from being an expert in various flora and fauna (fauna being esier to tell apart than flora).

Re: What Kind of Tree Is This?

I agree with the Flowering Crabapple after looking at google images.

The branching structure splits near the base and spreads out like a dogwood.

I wish I could grow a Dogwood here, but they don't do well in these parts as the soil is black clay with limestone beneath. They do much better in sandy/more acidic soils, from East Texas and points east...

Thanks for y'alls help...

Such a mess you are! :heeheehee

My kind of tree is any of these: Pecan, Oak (Red, Southern Red, White, Willow), Sweetgum, Red Maple, Hickory, Tulip Tree (aka Yellow or Tulip Poplar).

Notice any similarities?

I was going to suggest crabapple. we have one and the flowers look like that.

ours produces a fruit that looks applish but about the size of a blueberry and not really edible.

Same here. Funny thing is the fruit is still on (some) from last year, while the new blooms are coming out now.

Really? Ask Dagwood to bring you a plant from his! :nod
Usually new growth sprouts up underneath the trees.

Yes, it covers the whole city. It's ridiculous.

crabapple trees are expensive? wow, I didn't know that. We think they're pretty much useless around here and tend to pull them out whenever we see them. There are a couple growing down by the railroad tracks near here. Too bad there wasn't a way to send 'em to you, Cindy. Or even a start from one. I don't know how the nurseries do that - send live plants in the mail. Do you??

by the way, I would swear that the picture is of a Dogwood Tree. My neighbor has one we've been babying for years around here. Sooo pretty. Actually, she had two. One white. One pink. But sadly, my neighbor has died. And I don't know who will be living in their house now :( Hope they are as good as my friends who died tho.

I am not sure how they do it either, Margie. We have ordered some from catalogs and got them in the mail. They are usually in a little plastic bag, and you keep them in the refrigerator until you plant them.

Hope you get a great neighbor.

Oh, come on! Just go hang out in Dog Alley. Haha! That was our hang out for most of the day, then went across the street, on the north side of 64, to the pavillions over there and bought some Texas-style end tables.

Anyway, Dog Alley is where I saw some small landscape plots. None of them had a crabapple tree, but I did see some azaleas. Of course, I was drooling when I saw them. Surprisingly, azaleas do quite well in this black clay, as long as they aren't set in flood-prone bedding...

Margie, the similarities are definitely there with a Dogwood and Crabapple. If I saw a Dogwood here in the Dallas/North Texas area, I'd almost guarantee it was planted with plenty of Ironite around and below the roots. The might grow much better as close as a Sulphur Springs-Terrell-Corsicana line and points east. The more sandy/acidic the soil, the better they'll do...

Perhaps someone could help me with this one.

What type of tree is it?

I have no idea but I would like to know because they are growing like weeds all over our backyard!

Everytime I see the title of this thread I am reminded of that song, WHAT KIND OF CHURCH IS THIS? IT'S AN APOSTOLIC CHURCH! WHAT KIND OF CHURCH IS THIS? IT'S AN APOSTOLIC CHURCH? WHAT KIND OF CHURCH IS THIS? IT'S AN APOSTOLIC CHURCH!

IT'S A HAND CLAPPIN, IT'S AN ISLE RUNNIN, IT'S A PEW JUMPIN, IT'S A DEVIL STOMPIN, IT'S A PENTCOSTAL APOSTOLIC CHURCH!

(I really dislike this song as much as the I'M A PENTECOSTAL song)
