Bin Laden's wives obey Acts 238???
 

Recently Stoneking spoke in Visalia, Ca. He told the sheeple that Osama had 40 wives who were in prison for 7 yrs. Someone preached to them about the Holy Ghost. All 40 were baptized in Jesus' name. 28 of them spoke in tongues.

IM pretty informed and i didnt know he had 40, 3 or 4 yes ,it took us 20 years to find him an someone has found all of wives and prayed for them ? i dont get it,i like LS BUT i remember in the 70.s the sermon where by the camp evangelist said that a nationally known televeangelist was coming our way just as soon as he was able to make sure all of his people and ministry, were able to come with him,no names and never mentioned again !

BTW LS lost credibility with me when he preached that a bunch of Russian miners had drilled too far into the middle of the earth and could hear the screams of the dead in hell.

What bothered me is he clearly thought we were all stupid enough that he could do that

He lost all chances of cleaning up his credibility with the Hair debacle and that stuff about angels looking like us

In LS's defense, he was far from the only one to use that story for dramatic effect. Prior to the internet allowing for checking of sources this story was very well spread and well used, outside Apostolic ranks as well.

MANY preachers tend to not check sources for validity when it comes to good inspirational stories. My guess would be that LS did this same thing with this Osama's wives story. Someone he knew and respected todl him it happened so he believed them and used the story in a sermon. Happens quite often with many a preacher across denominal lines.

Osama only had 3 wives from all accounts I've read....look...I get it....40 wives in a cave for 7 years coming out n getting converted is a wonderful inspirational story..but I don't wanna sit there and play "Ok....is this really legit?" Everytime I hear something like this....if someone is unsure of the source or validity of a story they need to preface the story with that.

I don't believe most stories that preachers tell. ...because I found several on snopes.

Preachers should be men of integrity - this means checking out crazy stories before repeating them from the pulpit, or at least being man enough to say "I heard this, but I have not checked it out."
But of course that wouldn't cause as much excitement in the crowd.

Pretty weak defense. Where I come from we call a spade a spade.

How can any preacher expect people to take him seriously and believe what he says if he repeats wild stories as truth without any fact finding?

Conversely, how can people believe anything these preachers say if they are do such a poor job of fact finding? Apparently the threshold for credibility must be quite low in the UPC just as it is in some Charismatic circles.

The same UPC folks who will make fun of crazy stories about Charismatics seeing gold dust will believe wild stories from one of their own.

Your defense of LS is very close to the philosophy that says preachers don't have to tell the truth because they are "building faith" when they tell lies. Of course we know that biblically that is a bunch of hooey.

I think many religious leaders get themselves whipped up into a psychological fury wherein they loose all touch with reality and believe their notions are absolute truth. I don't see them as entirely evil men... they are in some ways... victims of the enemy. Self deluded.
