Dentist

I have an appointment with the dreaded dentist.Pray for me.I lost a filling chewing gum over the weekend last weekend and have had a toothache for a week.Today is the dreaded day.I don't want to be laid up all night with a heating pad and drugs.Last night I took IBU 800's and slept on the couch with a heating pad over my face.I hate toothache.I also hate extractions.I thought yesterday of that revival Brother Stoneking preached where the Lord filled peoples teeth. No not with Gold.It was the real thing...enamel.I need that really bad right now.

What do you mean you are falling apart?

Trouvere 05-24-2007 11:09 AM

One tooth at a time. The week before my back right molar lost its filling and half the tooth as well.I am falling apart one tooth at a time.

I will pray for you.

I also hate going to the dentist. After my last experience, I would rather do anything than go to a dentist. They were supposed to be pulling a tooth... the tooth broke off mid-extraction-- and the feeling came back. It was too late then to give me anything else-- so they had to finish removing the tooth-- and I felt everything. If I never have to go back to a dentist again, it would be perfectly fine with me.

So much for my courage about that root canal.:sad

You've got my prayers, too. I know what you're talking about, my friend!!

I had to go to the dentist last week because I had a filling that was leaking and hurting. He refilled that. That wasn't too bad while he was doing it. But the next 3 days I was hurting because while I was numb, I sneezed and bit my tongue - HARD!!!

Then after I got that healed up, I had to go back in because he found a tooth that I'd broken off half of. It's the anchor tooth for my partial, so I have to have it! So he's putting a crown on it. I spent 3 hours in the chair on Tuesday getting the temporary crown put on and then I'll go back in two weeks for the permanent one. Trust me, Tuesday was NOT fun!!

So I'll pray for you (and all the others who've posted here). You pray for me, ok? Thanks!!

I have dentalphobia. My teeth will rot out of my head before I see one again.

Trouvere 05-24-2007 05:32 PM

Well the word is in.I am still in pain.I have to see an Endodonist to do three root canals.Good thing I have dental insurance but I will be paying out the nose for this work.My share just at the dentist and after insurance is going to be fifteen hundred dollars.Get this.My teeth are decaying from the roots downward.I was told to go out and buy tooth paste called Pro-Sensidyne.It cost almost five bucks a small tube and some of that new Acts mouthwash restorative.I bought some calcium tabs as well and orajel to be able to stand it until all this is done.I hope I am not on the heating pad again tonight. Its getting to be old sleeping on the couch or in the recliner.
I will pray for anyone who needs it.
The dentist ask me what I was doing that decayed my teeth so bad.I have no idea.I use diet sweetners. So I am off coffee, off diet coke and drinking only water. Also I have to drink water every time I feel my mouth is dry.Go figure.
I will be doing this all day.Its possible that acid reflux while I sleep is doing this to me so I am going to go to the md now.The eye doctor, dentist and md all in one week. What next???? The copays are killing me.
Anyone with naturapathic ideas would be very welcome about right now.

Hey sis, let me give you a hint that will help. Take a pillow slip and fold it up and wet it and then put it in a freezer bag and put a little water in it and put it in the microwave and heat it up until the water is almost boiling and them wrap it up in a towel and put it on the side of your face that is hurting and it will help with the pain and the swelling.

I know it sounds wierd, but it works a lot better and faster than a heating pad. It might be a shock at first, but then it will settle down.

I am going to try it.I will do anything.I bought some orajel at Walmart along with the other things the dentist had me to buy.I am starting on calcium supplements as well. The wierd thing is acid is causing this.I brush and floss all the time. She thinks when I sleep that I have reflux and its seeping under my teeth.I am supposed to drink small sips of water all day long from now until eternity.lol...the amount I have to pay for all the work may kill me who knows.
Thanks I am going to try it.Anything that would help.I have exhausted all my nursing knowledge.

Make sure to wrap it in a towel that is pretty thick, so it does not burn your face. I had a tooth that was bad and it started at night (of course) and by morning I was taking it out of the microwave and putting straight on my face. Man I looked like I was sunburned and it was in the middle of winter.

Let me say this as nicely as I can..........I know it's probably too much information, but I would rather go to the gynecologist 3 times a day than go to the dentist once a year.

Tooth pain doesn't have very far to travel to the brain to tell you it hurts, if you hurt your foot or leg or something, the pain can wear off a little before it gets to the brain to tell you "Hey, I'm hurting" not so with the tooth, just about an inch and no time to get mixed up signals and it screams, "HEY YOU IDIOT, I"M IN PAIN HERE, DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS."

Trouvere 05-24-2007 07:30 PM

So true but I am surprised that the dentist is sending me with a referral unstead of doing anything about me losing that filling.I am going to talk
to Dr.Lui the dentist at my job tommorrow night and ask him if he thinks
I should go to someone else.He may do some of the work for me and file
my insurance himself.Thank the Lord for once I am a prison nurse at least
we have a dentist and three doctors daily.lol...its about one of the only
times lately I am thankful for it.

The dentist was asking YOU? Seems like he ought to have some suggestions.

I just read not long ago that flouride can rot your teeth from the inside out. I know that sounds wierd and I don't know any more about it than that. You might want to do some reading on flouride reactions. I know you wrote you brush and floss all the time.

I hadn't heard of that.I do floss and brush all the time.It makes no sense to me.I wondered if it might have had to do with bleaching my teeth.I do have those little mouth pieces that you use to whiten your teeth and because I have bonding that discolors I use it now and then though its been awhile.

I looked it up ILG this is one thing I found that the dentist told me today:
Actual dental erosion (demineralization from direct contact with acids) is relatively rare and found in those with bulimia or GERD due to continual gastric acids hitting the teeth, made worse .

I know I'm not bulimic so its maybe GERD.lol..

Maybe. I don't know because I'm sure not a dentist. :drseuss But I have read that there are negative effects to flouride that we all need to know about. I am tyring to find out more about it now.

It is wierd to me how I could be so diligent in brushing and flossing and still
all my fillings are falling out and the condition of my teeth.I even use a low peroxide level mouth rinse.I changed today though to something resorative and EXPENSIVE.I was told though ILG to buy some fluride and begin applying it.I am supposed to ask the pharmacist because now its otc.

ROFL! I'm just cracking up! I totally understand what you mean!

My fear is so bad though, I think I'd even prefer the proctologist as well!

Well, it's a decision you have to make, but I think it would be good to educate yourself on flouride beforehand.

Did you have a bad experience? Have you thought about sedation?

Trouvere 05-25-2007 09:38 AM

Okay prayer request extended.
I have to work tonight with this toothache still going.
They referred me to an endodonist. There is not one on my network
so I have to go out of network. My share of the bill is going up.
I cannot afford alot because I am the only one working full time.We
just opened up a new business.Pray for me that I can find someone
who takes my insurance and get this toothache to go away.

I don't recall having a bad experience, but I must have, because I recall being fearful of the dentist when I was ten. My mom didn't make me go after I was in fifth grade because of it.

Trouvere 05-28-2007 03:58 AM

Please keep me in prayer. They could not get me into the office until after
the holiday.I am working with a constant toothache.I have a tube of

I have had two, but it was a long time ago. I think I would take the whole day off for one for sure. The worst part to me is sitting in that chair forever.

Did you have to be sedated or do they just do local stuff?
