Well, I'm a Mac person myself.

Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
I'm not. I spent the last 5 years working on Windows computers, it's what I know and love.

Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow

Why will you not ever use the Blu-ray drive?
Those specs sound fine for general use like surfing the internet, word processing ,etc. |

Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
The reason I am a Mac person is:
Before I retired from GE on March 1, 1959 I used a computer in my work. We were on whatever the latest Windows system was at the time. I could do enough to do my job but was not very adept with it. During Thanksgiving dinner 2000 one of my sons asked me if I missed GE. I told him the only thing I missed about GE was the emails and jokes. That year for Christmas he gave me an iMac. Well, since I was not very computer savvy and this was a whole new system I bought a book called "The iMac for Dummies" and started out on page 1. I went page by page until I got far enough that I could do some emails, word processing, internet searching, etc and closed the book. I've pretty much remained there. I joined an online Mac Users Group called CMUG (Christian Mac Users Group) and that helped me with some questions as they came up. I also joined a local Mac Users Group called AppleSiders in March 2001. Their web site is http://www.applesiders.org/Home.html I still belong to that group and have learned a few things. I dropped out of the online Mac Users Group to cut down on emails received. If you are interested I think it is still active and you can find out about them at http://macministry.org/Site/Mac_Ministry.html My original iMac was retired a few years ago. I currently have 2 old (close to obsolete) Macs which I use. My laptop is a 800 MHz iBook G4, purchased 2/6/2004 640 MB Memory 30 GB Hard Drive OS 10.4.11 Tiger My desktop is a 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo iMac, purchased 11/8/2007 4 GB Memory 300 GB Hard Drive OS 10.7.4 Lion |

By the time this one goes kaput, I hope to have enough money already saved up for another one. |

I'm a pure Intel man through and through, but when buck came to dollar, AMD was the way to go. I need to expand myself anyways.

Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
The computer's awesome by the way. It zooms. The real test is when I get home with it and hook it up to my aircard. A step above dialup, but not much of one.

Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
I might be getting a new laptop in the very near future (and broadband, instead of this slow dialup). But for years now,..I have been putting together older computers (my "newest" one is a Dell Optiplex gx270--p4--2.8Ghz--1G ram--160G hard drive,.... from 2004).
I "triple-boot" Windows XP,...Slackware Linux 13.37,...and Racy Puppy Linux 5.2.2. One of my old PIII computers runs windows 2000 with games for the grandson (he loves it). (PS: I have also run Mandriva Linux, Linux Mint, Vector Linux, Ubuntu, Kubuntu, Xubuntu, OpenSuse, FreeBSD, PCBSD, Mepis Linux, AntiX, DreamLinux, Debian, etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc. etc) What can I say? I love old computers and Linux. |

Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
I paid 89 for my OCZ 700 watt one so they're not too incredibly pricey.

Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
Well, I got mine, and I paid retail for it, so I'll have to be satisfied. Say a prayer for me guys, I'm in the middle of a Ubuntu install. Hope I did everything right, I wouldn't want to restart and find Windows unbootable. If worst comes to worst, I can always boot
Ubuntu from cd! Lol. |
Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
Hmm...Apparently the ubuntu install didn't work...my computer booted straight to windows.
|
Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
So....anyone have a Windows 7 boot disk lying around somewhere? If not...I sure hope I like Ubuntu...*sigh*
|
Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
Whoo hoo! I found a legal Windows 7 ISO!
|
Re: Picking Up A New Computer Tomorrow
Where in the world did you buy this computer that you don't have a Windows 7 reboot disc or access online to download it?????
Please tell me you didn't buy a used laptop when you can buy new ones for $299 and $399 |
