Got my AARP card

There is nothing that says "You are old and washed up" like getting that red and white card in the mail...

Someone please tell me that there are some huge benefits that will make up for that kicked in the gut feeling I got when I opened that uniquely depressing piece of mail.

It's gonna take a lot more than cheap breakfast at IHOP to make me feel better about this.

Want to know what made me feel better?

That particular piece of mail goes into my box of papers designated to be burned. :)

You will get more.

I think it's great that you made it that far and that you're still alive. I wish I could get discounts for just being alive :) I did ask for a discount for being an American at a bookstore in Lleida, Spain and they gave me 10% off lol I was only kidding but I took the deal ;)

The best thing about being over 50 is Cinemaworld only charges you $4.00 to see a movie. But here is the thing, the seats are more comfortable at home and the popcorn is much less expensive. Also, my husband can pause the movie when he needs a bathroom break, his prostrate doesn't allow for a full movie viewing w/o a break.:heeheehee

Actually we've been through the barrage of mail from AARP with Don already... He's now 56 and they seem to be slowing down some after being completely ignored for six years :)

We belong to American Seniors Association. It also gives discounts but isn't "liberal". :heeheehee

Re: Got my AARP card

Just in case you've reached 55 and aren't getting all of the cool discounts that reward us because we're OLD, here's some of my favorites:

Kohls- (62 yrs) 15% every Wed
Younkers- 15%---not sure if it's every Wed
Perkins, Village INN and many others.......offer Sr discount or have a Sr page on the menu.

Arby's and Wendy's______free drink, but not with the combo

Burger King----sr drink is 35 cents

Shopko---1st Wed of month 15% off

And many museums etc have a Sr price or if you have a Sr card can get a discount.

I often forget to ask :girlytantrum

So you have to be 50 to get an AARP card, right? Just enjoy the bennies. You're not old until you're 80.:)
