Thanks for the link. Ironically I am leaving tomorrow to go with some of my church leadership to the Catalyst conference in Atlanta so won't get to stream the Thursday and Friday GC services. Always like to hear those "Hold The Fort!!!!" messages.

to view live streaming cost $25 - $150. what a rip off. I can get more substance from a free episcopal sermon. how lame. no way I'm paying. you would think they actually had something important to say. :nah

Wow, it's not free?
That's absurd!

That's like paying an admission fee to
get into a church.

Did I hear somebody complaining about
TV preachers....saying it's only about
the money?

Re: UPCI GC - Live Streaming

Yikes, just saw that the worst quality streaming cost $25. I am going to be at another conference starting tomorrow night so won't pay that to watch just one night.

I guess it is a good thing I can pretty much guess what is going to be said!

I was actually hoping that my leg was being pulled. I regret to say that everything said about them charging to stream the services was true. Not happening for me. There are several hundred messages that I can hunt for on the internet, in my parents tape library, and my own cd library. Though it might have been nice to listen to the GC, I do not have the money to pay for even the lowest quality. I might wait until someone puts it up on youtube.

While on the one hand I do understand the financial reasons for charging for the stream it does seem strange to charge for something you would think they would want as many Oneness folks as possible to see and be blessed and encouraged by.

Not exactly the same thing but years ago I was a member of a church that put on a large Easter musical with a cast of over 100 people. It was an amazing production and drew busloads of people from all over. My pastor had always had the same mindset as myself in saying he would never charge for something like that at the church.

However after two or three years of doing it he realized that because it was free a lot of people were coming back to see it two and three times. We had limited seating for around 1000 people or so and only doing three or four performances. By starting to charge it discouraged people from coming more than once so others could see it for the first time and it also brought in money to underwrite the production to make it better each year. For persons who could not afford the ticket price we had a free performance that was essentially our dress rehearsal.

I would love to hear the reasons. This is ridiculously cheap to provide these days.

I could understand this if they were charging anything regarding a reasonable price. However, they are not doing so. This is the same problem that they have had since they started charging to attend the GC. Every year, they have raised the prices, which proceeded to suppress attendance. Then they wish to complain of an ever decreasing attendance. This will achieve the same result.

Go sell some peanut brittle and you might have enough green to view the GC.

You have pretty much stated my view also. You would think they would encourage as much participation as possible.

The years I attended GC's I thought the hour spent taking up offerings brought in the money to cover hosting the event.

Don't be surprised. They charge admission now as well.

I'm sure it is very disappointing, for many, to have to PAY in order to criticize everything said and done - bummer!! We want to do that for FREE!!! :heeheehee

you are getting me confused with DA. we're both puerto rican but i actually like stoneking, dkb, jerry jones and jeff arnold. don't confuse politics with anti upc, though i do believe in social gospel and respect for other religions, i'm still a three step anti-standard progressive.

I was really bouncing off of your post, but thanks for the clarification. :thumbsup

75$ is a lot of money to watch a few services if even that.

Re: UPCI GC - Live Streaming

I think it is very concerning when an organization starts charging to hear the Word of God preached.

Just saying...

Jay 10-07-2012 02:12 PM

Re: UPCI GC - Live Streaming

I would have paid $10 to hear, but anything more than that is just too much to be affordable. I do not believe in criticizing, but I would have liked to hear it. Too bad.

Re: UPCI GC - Live Streaming

If anybody did pony up the money and watched GC can you report on who spoke, content, etc?

BroJoe 10-08-2012 12:51 AM

Re: UPCI GC - Live Streaming

The price to watch it live was astronomical. If I'm not mistaken, you can pay $20 to get the archived services for one month. Let me try and get a link.

"what a rip off. I can get more substance from a free episcopal sermon."

LOL. Charging admission: reminds me of days growing up in the RCC.
The priest held a fund drive to put "AC" in the church (we needed it!)
and then when he got the dough he bought two big fans and
explained that air conditioning means: "any conditioning of the air..."
My grandfather (always sat at the very back pew) told me that
when the priest would pray "dominus vobiscum" during the mass, he
was actually saying "Dominic, go frisk 'em" to the altar boy.
