KABOOOOOOM! Obama complains about $4 billion to the oil companies---then Romney points out he gave $90 billion to the "green companies" like Solyndra and Fisker.

Obama looked like deer in the headlights!!!!!

Romney worked with Dems and Republicans in Mass as governor and will do the same in DC. In four years, Obama never worked with the GOP.

Obama didn't look like he enjoyed the debate.

Re: 1st Presidential Debate 9PM EST

Not really getting into all this politicking.... yet... I had nothing better to do tonight, and despite my terribly slow buffering every 2-3 seconds internet... I did watch this debate. My daughter who is a junior listened with me. It was hilarious when Romney made the point that Obama had promised to hire 1-2 million new math and science teachers, and Romney said.... why didn't you hire those teachers, instead of spending 90 BILLION on the failures of green energy. What a hoot that was! Way to go Romney on that point and quite a few others!

I am not really confident that Romney will be able to make much of a difference in the White House considering how long it takes to turn around a ship.... yet, I like his ideas on limiting the federal government and giving states back their rights to determine what is best for their state. It looks like he might be able to do more than the goon we have in there now....

Whoever it shall be... it remains in the hands of the Lord...

Preparing for the debate cut into his tee time. I would be an unhappy camper if I had to cancel trip to the country club.

Gov. Gary Johnson following along and commenting on the debate between O and Romney. He has an interview with Neil Cavuto, but follows along for over an hour - for anyone interested.

Romney did well, but we will wait and do the fact checking on both.

Was I supposed to start liking him now? Fat chance. So in the ensuing days, keep that in mind. I don't care whether he wins or loses. He was never my candidate and never will be.

While all the seals are clapping and barking at Romney's performance, I want to pay attention to what he was saying.

First of all, he says he isn't looking to make a $5 trillion tax cut. Independent analysts show that his rate cuts and other changes would total $5 trillion in the next 10 years. The Tax Policy Center says that it is also mathematically impossible to cover a $5 trillion reduction by eliminating tax breaks solely on high-income taxpayers. He spoke earlier of cap reductions of $17,000, but at the debate he said it would be $25,000 or $50,000.

Quote:

The nonpartisan Tax Policy Center, a joint project of the Urban Institute and Brookings Institution, has said the Romney proposal would cost $360 billion in the first year before it is offset by closing loopholes, which others have extrapolated to estimate that it would amount to $5 trillion over the decade.

http://www.latimes.com/news/politics...,3813713.story
On his claim to repeal Obamacare and keep pre-existing conditions - Romney's top advisor said that people with pre-existing conditions will not likely be able to purchase insurance. “With respect to pre-existing conditions, what Governor Romney has said is for those with continuous coverage, he would continue to make sure that they receive their coverage,” said Eric Fehrnstrom, referring to existing laws which require insurance companies to sell coverage to people who already have insurance, or within 90 days of losing their employer coverage.

He claimed that "half" of the green energy projects the government invested in had gone out of business. The actual number is 3 out of 26.

He claimed that 23 million people were out of work. The actual number is 12.5 million.

He claims that 50% of college graduates can't find work, but he is factoring in the underemployed. That would be people who ARE working, but not using their degree. That is nothing new.

So, anyway, these are just a few stretches and with all the data he put out, I'm sure there will be more. I haven't fully had time to finish the transcript.

He did answer a question correctly that Obama was totally wrong on - What is your job as President? Obama: "To protect the American people." Romney: "Too uphold the Constitution." That would be the right answer and he did his Republican thang on that one. Being that he supports the NDAA, along with Obama, I find it hard to believe he is sincere on that answer.

And did you notice when Romney said, “the individual mandate that requires every American to purchase health care or suffer increasing tax penalties, places an unfair burden on the middle class."

Might have made voters a little confused that he has that same mandate in Massachusetts. It was his idea. :spit

Yet, he continues to insist that this should happen at the state level, emphasizing state's rights over federal mandates. That's a positive; not a negative. It keeps government small. It allows states to decide what is right for their constituents. There's nothing wrong with instituting statewide healthcare if the state's constituents are agreeable with what is being passed. Passing a healthcare mandate on a smaller (state level) scale works better simply because it's done a smaller scale and for no other reason than that. It's easier to regulate, supervise and change as needed. It leaves the individual attributes of the plan up to the state, allowing the state to customize it to their constituents' needs and to their particular state budget.

Surely you see that there is a difference between something done at the federal level that impacts all 50 states and something done at the state level that only affects that state? He makes sense to me. Yes, we need to address the problem of healthcare because too many people don't have it. No, we don't need to fix it at the federal level; we need to fix it at the state level.

Whether you like or dislike Romney, there's no doubt about it that Obama was flustered last night and that he was showing his narcissistic side. I wish they would turn off his mic when he goes over time. What an arrogant man. He grates on my very last nerve. When he smiles, its like an angry wolf baring it's teeth. I don't believe for a second that he loves America or wants anything good for our country. He wants to twist our country into something that suits his un-American ideals.

My vote is going to Romney for the simple purpose of getting Obama out of office, if nothing else. I don't dislike Romney, either; but I'm not all that enthused about him. However, he is far better than the current alternative. I like him slightly more than I liked John McCain, which wasn't much. I sort of wish the ticket were reversed, and that it was Ryan/Romney. I do believe that Romney, while he has faults, is a loyal American and family man and I believe that he genuinely wants what is best for the whole country--whether you agree with his conclusions or not.

Romney won big on self energy. He made Obama look bad.

On the other hand all on here who are whooping it up need to pay closer attention to what he said. He reversed himself on almost all that he has said in his campaign speeches.

An Etch A Sketch moment just like his adviser said he would.

So in MA if you don't buy insurance you are taxed extra? Do you have a source for that?
