Re: Are You A Disciple Of Jesus?
I might have agreed, a year ago...but most
of the time, prolly, as sorry as I am to admit this, the world interferes, and Christ is relegated to "Someone I admire." Oh, I like to think I'm holier than thou--one of the signs, lol--but really, Christ is who I follow until some girl comes along that I want to impress, or someone posts something I don't like, or someone suggests something that causes me extra work. :lol |

MTD: Just had some time this afternoon to listen to this, and it was wonderful teaching. Teaching that you will never hear in a mainstream church arena. Being a disciple of Christ, isn't like believing in a "Santa Claus" type figure that just gives you everything you want... which is a very comman message taught today.
Being a disciple of Christ means having an understanding that this world that we live in is only temporary, and the world to come is the world where our lives will really begin. So the cost that we pay in this world to be a disciple, cannot even be compared to the world that is to come. Paul said we have been given the "earnest" of our inheritance through the Spirit... just a foretaste of glory to come. Counting the cost in this life with an understanding of eternity makes all the difference in the life of a disciple of Christ. I agree with your premise, that new believers should be taught to count the cost, as you mentioned in Luke 14. Too many times it is more about getting them to the initial salvation experience, counting the number and moving on. But indeed, counting the cost, and picking up your cross... is part of salvation, and being a disciple/Christian. I hope everyone on here listens to it, although sadly, I don't think they will. It is much more fun to argue politics, or standards, than to count the cost that Christ speaks of. |

I believe you are being painfully honest about your "shortcomings", of which we all have. None of us can say that we live without sin. (except maybe Tangible....) :heeheehee Seriously though... when we live for sin, we do sin, and never can say no to sin, and never can rise above sin ... then perhaps we have become disconnected from the power source. For IF it is true that "we can do all things through Christ who strengthens us" then perhaps the reason there is no ultimate victory over our sin, is because we are trying to deal with "sin" issues on our own strength, without allowing the power of the Holy Spirit, the Comforter to work through us on our behalf in order to overcome. And it is a "daily" thing.... just as MTD read the scripture in Luke 9:23 "If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me." BByrd, what it really takes is a daily reconnecting to the power source in order to be overcomers, disciples, and Christians. |

Aquila, Discipleship is something more basic than the Apex guy is saying. It includes those things but discipleship itself to Jesus is forsaking all to follow. Yes I understand in his 3 points he is saying that but I have several friends and a daughter who have been there and I would have a hard time fitting Apex into what I am stressing in the video. House Church does not automatically equal discipleship. |
