RIP Twinkies!
It appears that a workers union successfully closed down another company! The 18,000 employees can give each other a high-five that they stood up to "the man"! Oops........now they're out of a job!

Hostess Brands Inc. says it's going out of business after striking workers across the country crippled its ability to make its Twinkies, Ding Dongs and other snacks. The company had warned employees that it would file a motion with U.S. Bankruptcy Court Friday seeking permission to shutter its operations and sell its brands if plants hadn't resumed normal operations by a Thursday evening deadline. The deadline passed without a deal. The closing would mean the loss of about 18,500 jobs. |

We are sorry to announce that Hostess Brands, Inc. has been forced by a Bakers Union strike to shut down all operations and sell all company assets. For more information, go to hostessbrands.info. Thank you for all of your loyalty and support over the years. HOSTESS BRANDS TO WIND DOWN COMPANY AFTER BCTGM UNION STRIKE CRIPPLES OPERATIONS Friday, November 16, 2012 at 7:00AM Irving, TX – November 16, 2012 – Hostess Brands Inc. today announced that it is winding down operations and has filed a motion with the U.S. Bankruptcy Court seeking permission to close its business and sell its assets, including its iconic brands and facilities. Bakery operations have been suspended at all plants. Delivery of products will continue and Hostess Brands retail stores will remain open for several days in order to sell already-baked products. The Board of Directors authorized the wind down of Hostess Brands to preserve and maximize the value of the estate after one of the Company’s largest unions, the Bakery, Confectionery, Tobacco Workers and Grain Millers International Union (BCTGM), initiated a nationwide strike that crippled the Company’s ability to produce and deliver products at multiple facilities. On Nov. 12, Hostess Brands permanently closed three plants as a result of the work stoppage. On Nov. 14, the Company announced it would be forced to liquidate if sufficient employees did not return to work to restore normal operations by 5 p.m., EST p.m., Nov. 15. The Company determined on the night of Nov. 15 that an insufficient number of employees had returned to work to enable the restoration of normal operations. This is what you get when you look up Hostess cupcakes. :( |
Re: RIP Twinkies!
Ya know, the idiocy of people astounds me at times, yet we have seen this happen time and time again.
What will happen now is that another company will arise up, using the old recipes and start making those again, but now without a union. |

Re: RIP Twinkies!
This same type of thing happened at the factory where my FIL was in upper management. The union went on strike, and the management told the union that if they didn't accept a small cut in pay and benefits, the factory would be forced to close. The union continued to strike thinking that the threat was just a negotiating ploy. Guess what? The factory closed and hundreds were left without a good paying job!
Good paying jobs are hard to find these days, and cuts of this nature is going to be the norm when Obamacare goes into effect. |

These are hard times dd, companies are cutting costs trying to stay afloat. Now there are thousands of people out of work because they thought they wanted to keep the status quo. What the companies need to do is break the backs of the unions. :highfive |

The problem with Hostess is that they faced a shrinking market combined with more competition. Although I haven't used their products in some time, they are an American icon that I hate to see disappear. Then again, I'm old school! I'm learning to adjust to the new norm of little or no economic growth, plus the general acceptance of things that used to be thought of as immoral. Oh well........ |

Do you honestly think a REAL Christian would eat something like a Twinky or a HoHo or unhealthy stuff like that?

Re: RIP Twinkies!
Imagine being a union worker wherein a contract was signed.... and the leaders of your company are giving themselves golden parachutes and plan to essentally take everything you've invested in the company and drop you like dead weight. It would be obvious to any organized labor leader that the company was doomed. Striking is the only recourse. Kill the beast... before they write themselves more pay raises... only to leave you unemployed looking for work.
