Well, she wears sandles already so open toes would be an upgrade in modesty.

I did not think of that, but you have a very valid point. My brother and sister-in-law just finished putting up their tree this weekend.

Slippery slope. Can short sleeves and red shoes be far behind?

We were raised without the Christmas tree, and for a while, we only exchanged gifts after Dad decided that he did not approve of decorating. That stand lasted 10 years, and I have never been as enthusiastic about Christmas since. I am not a fan of the tree, but neither am I strictly opposed to it on any particular ground either. I have heard the argument against it, and while compelling, it has done nothing to remove me from an incredibly apathetic stance on the issue. My main reason for dislike trees is that they seem to be a lot of expensive work that I would rather not deal with.

Dad/Pastor still opposes the tree. That alone is enough to keep me from acquiring one.

We do have some lights now, as well as little ornamentation. Tinsel is also used. Beyond that, not much. I have a bit, and I will be using it to decorate the church tomorrow for our annual Christmas Party. I can hardly wait to get started. I do not have a lot of time to get it done either.

I was taught against the tree coming up. That went out the window when my mom left her first church and then backslid all together. I currently don't have one, but I don't have a problem with it either way.

I know churches that celebrate and decorate without trees. i know its what a persons comfortable with but lights, wreaths, gifts same origin as the tree.

Some time after I was baptized in the name of Jesus Christ in late October 1955 I started attending Bethel Tabernacle (UPC) in Racine, WI. During the Christmas season they had a large Christmas tree on the platform.

As a child I attended the Congregational Church in Union Grove, WI. They had a large Christmas tree so I was not surprised to see one at the UPC church in a neighboring town. I just thought all churches did that at Christmas.

The tree is only an idol if I worship it. My favorite Chinese restaurant has a huge statue of Buddha. I don't eat as unto Buddha or embrace his philosophy by eating there.

Sorry, TS. I meant to quote Monty.

As to your post, don't confuse him with the facts.

Most everything has some kind of pagan undertone. Most people have no idea about the origins of Christmas, Easter, VD, the days of the week, our calendar, etc

I think this post contradicts what I wrote last yr. or two years ago. Anyway. Christmas isn't about Jesus for me. It's about spending time with family and friends. It so happens that the only time everyone comes together is at Christmas and Easter.

Re: IM slipping, I know you guys are shocked...in

I once heard an elder tell a young man to take a bit of time and prayerfully create a list of God given convictions and to keep it in a safe place adding to the list as he would grown in grace. But his greatest admonition was to NEVER EVER remove or comprimise one conviction..because when you begin removing those convictions and letting down the gates you have no control over where the comprimise may lead. It is my goal to grow and "evolve" stronger in my walk with God and committment HIm.

Not a slippery slope but a growing in grace..ever climbing and reaching for Him.

Can I ask a honest question? Can you cut a tree (any regular tree) and put it in your house NOT for christmas but just for interior decoration purposes?

Trying to say someone is worshipping a Christmas tree just because they have one as a decoration in their home is as absurd as saying they worship their vacuum cleaner because they own one.
