Memphis Churches

Just how many 'churches' are enough in Memphis?

The COGIC was based out of Memphis for a long time. They moved their conventions to St Louis just recently. There's all kinds of churches in Memphis.

I have to go there on business and it is my least favorite city to visit. Take a wrong turn and you fear for your life. However Germantown is nice!

My SIL got carjacked and robbed with a gun held to his head while on a business trip to Memphis. He thought he would save a little money and park for free a few blocks from Beale Street when going alone to listen to some music at BB Kings. The most expensive mistake of his life. They stole his laptopd and were about to make him take money out of an ATM when they got spooked and ran away. They had forced him to drive his car with a gun held to his head.

But alls well God delivered me and my family out of that den. While I was there, I never drove alone.....my 9MM Baretta-16 round clip...loaded with full metal jackets , :drawguns was my passenger! I loathe the south! And they say us yanks are snotty and rude?????:girlnails

If you look at a crime map, the areas with the most crime have the most 'churches'. Is there a correlation?

People plant churches in the areas that need them the most?

At what? Winning souls or lowering crime?

That would go hand in hand. Win soul, lower crime.

There are hundreds of thousands of people in inner cities and crime plagued areas, I don't see how you get that winning a soul drops the crime rate significantly enough to notice.

You're suggesting that the hundreds of churches are ineffective?

I moved here from the north 12 years ago. Best decision of my life. We live in Bartlett, a VERY safe suburb. Only two murders in the 12 years I've lived here. The police pull you over for having a tail light out. Criminals stay far away from here. Good school system. City of Memphis has bad, dangerous areas for sure, what major city doesn't? I don't live in fear here. I go all over town without any weapons. I've preached in inner city churches, even in the old church where Bishop Mason the founder of the COGIC pastored. I've been to Beale Street many times, no problems. Its a great city, lots of culture, lots of great food and music, museums, sports, gardens, golf courses, people. More churches per capita than anywhere in the USA. 2/3 of the population claim church membership. Still lots of darkness and evil lurking destroying lives. Memphis needs Jesus. We're trying to bring Him to them along with a lot of other churches. Some great churches here: Bellevue Baptist, Hope Presbyterian, Life Church of Memphis, Temple of Deliverance COGIC, New Direction Christian Church, Bethel Church (the one I pastor), Love and Truth Cordova. And then there's Elvis...

Uh...no. You are. You seem to rate "effectiveness" by the crime rate.

Well....ummm....you seem to be suggesting that the hundreds of 'churches' who are "winning souls" in Memphis aren't effective at all in reducing crime.

"Great" as in UPCI great or "great" as in WPF great? Or "great" as in yet another organization "great".

Maybe you should ask epley, he's under the delusion that he's the head of one of thousands of churches established by Jesus Christ. I'm guessing that he thinks his church, bro. epley's church, is "great". He may know of bro so-and-so's church in Memphis that's "great" also.

No, you are. I never said their goal was to reduce crime lol.

That's like saying gardeners aren't effective at reducing crime

That's two of us who haven't said that their goal was to reduce crime. You're avoiding the issue, should the hundreds and hundreds of 'churches' in Memphis winning thousands of souls have an impact on crime? You seem to be suggesting there's no correlation between soul winning and lifestyle changes such as turning from crime.

Why would you consider the hundreds and hundreds of 'churches' in Memphis impotent when it comes to crime?

Would this be the Bethel UPC church that was started on Chelsea or Jackson (near the National cemetery) back in the late 50s????

As a matter of fact if I was serious and not being extremely sarcastic, I would have asked Elder Epley.
