Are You a "Conservative" or a "Preservative"?

A fantastic quote from Warren Wiersbe:

Quote:

The Pharisees were cautious men who would consider themselves the conservatives, when in reality they were "preservatives". A true conservative takes the best of the past and uses it, but he is aware of the new things that God is doing. The new grows out of the old (Matt13:52). A "preservative" simply embalms the past and preserves it. He is against change and resists the new things that God is doing.

Excellent quote.

A preservative sticks to his granddaddies traditions. A conservative sticks to the principles of his granddaddies traditions.

It is easy (almost TOO easy) to come up with example after example of a preservative versus conservative.

From the last 3 posts y'all clearly watch TV (or at least that's what God told me) and you're all going to burn. :)

Back on subject, Deac, that is an excellent quote and one that I would agree with 100%.

I believe virtually every major "holiness standard" out there fits nicely into the "preservative" column myself. LOL
