Why are Pentecostals so hateful??
 

I don't know if this is something that is unique to my area or not, but the Pentecostals here are so hateful!

There is no love. If you don't go to their church (literally their 4 walls) you are shunned, ignored, etc. They won't even "fellowship" with other Pentecostal churches in the city. Or even family, unless they attend the same church.

I do not get this. What happed to loving others? What happened to banding together with our Christian brothers and sisters and helping each other along the way?

And if they think people who go to other churches aren't saved (not their call, but just for argument sake), wouldn't that be MORE reason to be salt and light and help lead them in what they consider to be the right direction?

I have even heard people close to me say they "don't care what happens to that church or anyone in it" when their own siblings and parents go to "that" church, not to mention people they literally grew up with.

How in the world can you love on and minister to a lost and dying world if you can't love other Christians or even your own family??

The "United" part in the "United Pentecostal Church" is kind of a nebulous concept...

For one thing, others are not considered Christian brothers and sisters.

Jealousy, envy, bitterness get involved, actions and reactions.

Lots of carnality.

It all stems from a love of "church" rather than for a love of God -and others (which is the 2nd greatest commandment by the way).

I never experience the lack of fellowship that I've experienced since I've been in the UPC out here in the southwest. I think it's less of an organizational issue and more of a regional issue. The UPC churches I knew of in Maryland had no problem fellowshipping even outside of the UPC. I know in the PAW and PCAF we fellowshipped almost every week. It seemed like we were at another church every other Friday. I remember being young and single, being with the other you and single saints in our district council and and literally going to Friday night youth service at our church, going to hear the preaching at a revival service at someone else's church and then going to all night prayer and someone else's church. I absolutely loved it. Unfortunately when I moved out here, that's not the case at all. No fellowship, which I find annoying, of course, they find it annoying when I keep asking why they don't fellowship. Hehehe

We have great fellowship with other churches in our area.

And there are others that will not fellowship with us.

We are UPC so we are a little to liberal for them.

I don't think its a "love fest" for church.

but a "love fest" for being in fellowship and spending time with God in His presence.

I think its a problem that you find a lot in the south or the bible belt regions simply because there are so many churches, and the reason there are generally so many churches is in part because of church splits... therefore the reason why they won't fellowship each other, because they couldn't get along with the same people in a church in the first place, and they sure aren't going to fellowship them when they start a church across town...

You probably nailed a majority of the problems, at least in the areas where, like you said, have a extra high density of churches.

You become conformed into the image of what you worship. If one worships a God that they invision as behaving in a manner that we might define as hateful, angry, bitter, judgmental, etc.... that is what they will become.

The greatest form of idolatry is allowing yourself to be conformed into the image of a religion... and not Jesus.

I live in the southwest and folks get along just fine here. I don't know a lot of hateful Pentecostals....

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions.

If you are involved with something that is a bit sketchy....just demonize those who don't agree with what you are doing and it takes the attention off your shortcomings.

The democrats and liberals have perfected this as an art.

This is NOT a UPCI issue...it is an Apostolic Pentecostal issue.

Definitely. The snobbier Apostolics don't come from the UPCI, in my experience. That seems more common among independent groups--especially those where their pastor teaches that they can't fellowship with anyone except local church members.

Exactly.

My two daughters and their friend got the Holy Ghost at HYC two years ago.

The friend started dating some guy from the independant church down the road.

Now my daughters are no longer living up to her standards so she don't associate with us anymore.

Sad.

There is a church in a neighboring city. Their members have been brainwashed by the Pastor to believe that other Pentecostals (UPC) are backslidden compromisers.

Recently a landslide of members have either left that church to go to other Pentecostal churches or just stopped going to church. They had enough of that Pastor

The problem is everyone of them left scarred and really internally unure if they could go to other Pentecostal churches because of what they had been taught for years.

We have several in my church and my friends church in another city has several.

These people are the result of bad Pastoring in a bad system focuses entirely their "gospel" on other churches being bad and a constant diet of nothing but what you should not be doing (ie watching TV etc etc).

While the members are partly to blame for being ignorant and enablers the problem is the Pastoring.

BTW we had a member leave that church for ours....the first 2 services she stayed in the parking lot instead of coming inside

Hey, When you are the only ones going to Heaven, and that God couldn't possible accept heathen pants wearing short haired women and tattooed shorts wearing men, and GOD FORBID, those nasty people that reject man-made standards then you have a right to put that nose in the air and be hateful to everyone except your "chosen few"! Remember, Jesus never said anything about loving others, he NEVER called Love a fruit of the Spirit and of course He went around with only other King James Speaking Apostolic Christian Believers and NEVER one time dirtied Himself by ministering to harlots and tax collectors and other VILE sinners!!! I mean feel free to correct me if Im wrong!! (please know, SARCASM TOTALLY MEANT)

Man, that is some good word. This is very true. I receive that, thank you for posting. I've been praying for years that God would help me see Him the way He sees Himself. To see myself the way He sees me and to see others the way He sees them. Perspective is so important.

I'll tell you why some are hateful- it's because they are MISERABLE. They are tired of going to church, tired of singing in the choir, tired of teaching SS, tired of being at the church building 4 and 5 nights a week, and on Sunday. They have no time for their family, no time to relax and recharge. They are tired of all the bickering that goes on in the Ladies Meetings, the choir practices, etc. NOTHING just 'comes easy' anymore- everybody thinks their opinion matters in EVERYTHING.

They are too busy bein 'busy'. Just MY two cents' worth...
