NRA Are You A Member?

I have been an NRA member as well as GOA and also involved in Friends Of the NRA. It's been a few years, guess I'll re up my membership. I really appreciate the NRA!

Re: NRA Are You A Member?

I'm not a member of a gun club or association. I don't think we have the NRA here in Australia. As a serving member of the military, I am a proficient user of our automatic weapon but am slightly dismayed at the strict gun laws here that don't allow me to own a semi-auto rifle without meeting some extremely specific criteria that excludes *99.99% of the population.

* This figure is just a guess to help show a point.

Re: NRA Are You A Member?

I plan to join. Ive avoided membership in the past because I didnt really see the need for them and didnt want the excessive phone solicitations and junk mail they are rumored to send. These days I see the light and plan to join. I will deal with the phone solicitations and junk mail if they come.

My Dad has been a life-long member. I remember he used to have this bumper sticker on his truck: I will give up my gun when they pry my cold, dead fingers from around it. ;)

My husband has been talking about joining. I will probably let the men handle it.

I believe that former President of NRA, Mr. Charlton Heston, made that quote famous!

You forgot one option on your poll......

If not a member, do you plan on joining?

And yes, we do plan on it!

Isn't GOA a group that started because some were disgruntled with the NRA leadership a few years a go?

It is interesting how liberal Australia has gone over the past 40 years or so. My dad seriously contemplated moving to Australia back when I was about 10 years old. Probably around 1969 or so. They were recruiting heavy equipment operators as they were experiencing a lot of growth. Now it is just about impossible to get a job in Australia as there are so many restrictions and limitations.

BTW Australia is the next big trip I have planned. Hopefully 2015 or at the latest 2016.

I plan on whipping out my CC and joining in the next day or two. Up until recently I really didn't want to (just like I won't join our states Right to Life group again) because of the massive internal soliciting they do. Also the NRA is a one issue group to the extreme in that they ONLY rate on things related to guns. For instance, Harry Reid has a B+ rating from them and you can see it in the way he quietly lets gun control issues die in the Senate. He never makes pro-gun statements so as not to upset his liberal base but he is just doesn't push anti-gun control nearly to the point that he might as well be actively blocking it.

Anybody about to join the NRA needs to look around and the various promotions right now. Not only is it $10 off so just $25 but different offers have different gifts. I foolishly signed up through the first ad I saw and got a stupid cap as a gimme then five minutes later I saw one were the promo was a $20 Bass Pro gift card. I would have much rather had that!

Yes, they felt NRA caved on some key issues. GOA Head Larry Pratt is a good guy.

I have been members of both Gun Owners of America and the NRA.

We haven't joined yet. I heard that when you join they bombard you for donations all the time. Maybe someone can confirm if that is true or not.

Right now that sale on the lifetime membership is a bargain. I wish my budget had allowed for it. I just did the one year and maybe next year if they still have that deal I will go for it.

I have a feeling that there will be a lifetime membership sale every few months from now on. $300 is an excellent price and would do it in a heartbeat if I hadn't just bought my one year membership literally days earlier.

I went to the GOA site to check them out but just can't bring myself to give any group that prominently displays an endorsement from Ron Paul on their front page any money. I wonder if they have a Ron Paul promo code where you get a free tin foil hat with your paid membership?
