Re: Shouts

The one where they were stating a demon was a little irreverent for me, but altogether I have seen & done most of the things shown (except the gymnast).
I might add, I ain't gracefull like these guys as well.

We had a visitor last year who came for a couple of services that when the service got going especially in the altar, he would head for the back of the Church & do some high stepping calistetics!

But, Ron, I've seen that shout too - - scares you to death! And, they are just "getting their praise on!"

My SIL used to do the helicopter or whirly-bird - funniest thing ever!

I've seen the shout yes, just not heard calling it that is all!
As for your SIL, I am going to regret saying this, but in the eighties, I had the nickname--the human windmill!:blush

Seriously, God hasn't moved on me in that manner again. We were actually talking about the time when people (including myself) got intoxicated with the Holy Ghost & would stumble around & start laughing!
Wonderful memories & experiences!

There was a man who came to our Church in early 1985 & it was Sunday night & the service got to cranking & I in worship God moved me from the front pew, my eyes were closed & I proceeded to hop backwards down the aisle still with my eyes closed towards where he was.
He told me later, "I don't receive this, I told God if he bounces towards me I am going to put my leg out and trip him.
I got to the pew in front of him & jumped to the other side of the aisle & went to the back!
He has been a good friend & is living in Winnipeg now!:thumbsup

Years ago this brother was doing the spin and was moving like a top to the front of the church and over in the direction of the exit door.

I saw him hit the wall, fall down and continue speaking in tongues.

My friend next to me tapped me and pointed over at the wall. It seems when the other brother hit the wall he kicked a hole in it too. My friend came later and patched it up.

I thought Paul said that the Gospel of Jesus Christ was the power of God (Romans 1:16).

Do we really believe this is how the NT Church worshiped? Or is this a cultural construct?

A Shout has nothing at all to do with the Power of God, a shout is just human emotionalism

It does have something to do with the power of God. If someone didn't feel His presence in such a powerful way, they wouldn't express themselves with such emotion.

I'm not going to interfere with someone's emotional expression unless they are disrupting a service and making it all about themselves. And I certainly wouldn't want to start a thread to begin a mocking campaign. Just sayin'...

Re: Shouts

What is proper worship or praise.
The Bible says in bringing back the Ark of the Lord to Israel in
14 And David danced before the Lord with all his might; and David was girded with a linen ephod.

15 So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the Lord with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.

16 And as the ark of the Lord came into the city of David, Michal Saul's daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the Lord; and she despised him in her heart.

17 And they brought in the ark of the Lord, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the Lord.

18 And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the Lord of hosts.

19 And he dealt among all the people, even among the whole multitude of Israel, as well to the women as men, to every one a cake of bread, and a good piece of flesh, and a flagon of wine. So all the people departed every one to his house.

20 Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!

21 And David said unto Michal, It was before the Lord, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the Lord, over Israel: therefore will I play before the Lord.

22 And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.

23 Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

Seems to me that King David got a little rowdy in worship before the Lord, so much so, that he seemed to have hummbled himself in the sight of all Israel!
God did not chide him, and seems to infer that God struck Michal with a barren womb until the day she died as he God was displeased with her attitude towards David's worship!:shockamoo
Boy, that would preach.:thumbsup

So, those of you commenting that this is not Biblical worship, what is Biblical woirship according to you?

Wendy Bagwell, (gospel singer from the past) found himself at a snake handling church. When they brought out one of the big rattlers he asked Geraldine, one of his fellow singers, "Where is the back door?" She answered, "There is no back door!" I think it can be either one--and I think that as long as it's meant as worship to God, He's going to like it. If people dance with wild abandon, as long as its in order within the service, I think He will be pleased with it. If people dance a choreographed, pre-planned dance before God in worship--I don't see how that's any different than singing a practiced, pre-planned song in worship.

I love this *Rain Dance*--it's so JOYFUL and FUN!:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x8Qto...=results_video

Some of my cousins (4 sisters and a brother) have been in ballet since they were small children and they are all part of a dance troupe that performs to hymns and worship music. It isn't loose interpretative dance--it's formal choreographed ballet to sacred music and the girls wear these long pretty, flowy dresses. I think it's gorgeous. (Btw, they aren't Apostolic.)

I'm fine with the "wild abandonment." However, I've never quite understood the objection to choreographed/planned movements. I don't think there's ANY scripture against it.

There isn't any scripture against it but it was always one of the "holiness standards" that kept me out of Square Dancing during gym class. :)

Go figure that I started competitive ballroom a few years after that. LOL
(And could never figure out how a beautiful waltz, foxtrot, or rumba was 'wrong' but dancing like a Jamaican voodoo practitioner wasn't.)

Seriously? :blink My kids have been copying people's dances since they were knee-high to a grasshopper. I thought every kid that grew up in church did that. Copying how people dance isn't the same thing as feeling disgust toward them for dancing like Michel did toward David. She wasn't out there with him; she was looking down on him in disdain from her window and putting him down for worshiping God. I didn't get that from the linked videos at all.

Your kids have never *learned* and demonstrated the dances of people at church?

I think you misunderstood my statement. I don't feel the thread was started in order to "compliment" the dancers/worshippers.

My husband has always said he would rather people make some mistakes in their responses than to quench the Spirit. :thumbsup

And no, my children didn't do any of that. At least I don't recall ever seeing it.
