Craigslist Anyone?

I know there is a lot of controversy about Craigslist in regards to scams, unethical practices, & just a general shadieness of it's operations.
Having said that, has anyone here used it's services?
I have gotten rid of an old metal bunkbed frame through the free section.
Our Church would have gotten free pews if we had our own building & I got two pairs of speakers one of which they do not make anymore.
When my wife found out I had gotten these two sets of speakers, she went ballistic like this:blah:smack
She obviosly didn't know the value of finding a set of speakers that aren't being made anymore.
My kids sometimes enjoy raising her blood preasure by saying, "mom, dad is online on Craigslist looking for free speakers again!":foottap
The response from my wife is kind of like when Donald Duck gets upset.:girlytantrum
Last year, I just happened to click online & a fellow said that he was putting out an almost new all in one Canon printer outside first come first served.
Our kids got an almost new printer for nothing as it was just 5 minutes away.:thumbsup

Anyone else used it?

I use it regularly to find roommates and to buy, sell, or give away items.

I also use it to find things to do.

I used Craigslist to find the house to rent that I live in now.

I also used it last November when my daughter was having a Birthday & she wanted a 4G Ipod & I found one online--never used because a grandpa bought it for his wife & she didn't know how to use it.
I got it for 60% of what they go for used!

There are lots of services provided on CL. When browsing CL you are just one or two mouse clicks away from porn.

Re: Craigslist Anyone?

Ron,

I have a few times. I've sold a bed and two couches on Craigslist.

The last time was on New Year's Day. I told my son that I sold my couch and they were coming to pick it up. He said, "mom, you need to be careful".......so, then that spooked me.

I called my neighbor and asked if they were watching football and would they mind at 2:00 to come over and watch it at my house for a little bit. I told her what I was doing and she about had a cow and said, yes, Eric and I will be over!

Well, Eric is about 6'2 and a healthy looking guy. So, the doorbell rings and these two guys are standing there and they had rented a U-haul van. I was never so glad to have warm bodies sitting on my couch as I was then. There was no incident, but I did realized the situation I had put myself in and I will NOT do that again.

I was so happy that my neighbors were available that I gave them a huge tin of expensive nuts I had received for Christmas!!!!

The same with the Buy & Sell or the Vancouver Sun Newspaper, so your point is?

Craigslist, just like the internet itself, can be used for very good purposes, or for very bad purposes.

That is wisdom & you were wise. There is always the opportunity for something to happen or for some bad guy to case you or the place!
Just give you an example, this Grandma & Grandpa I met in a public place & we did the transaction under everuyones nose.
Funny thing is, when I handed him the money that was over $100 bucks, the wife said, "I'll take that!" We both laughed.:heeheehee

My daughter sells a lot of stuff on Craiglist, but she meets the people to deliver the goods away from her home location. They, of course, have a trailer to carry larger pieces.

Re: Craigslist Anyone?

I use Craig's List all the time. Like others here, I don't allow people to come to my home.

Once I bought an entertainment center from somebody else. It just so happened that the ones selling were relatives of a close friend of mine.

The only time I get annoyed is people who call my phone wanting to sell my product for me...for a small fee of course. I never answer them.

And there are the dolts who email me asking me the same questions about the product that is plainly worded on the ad.

The scam is when someone emails you and says that they will send somebody to pick it up. They will try to give you a cashier's check for you to cash and you are to give the one who is to pick it up some of that money. Never take a cashier's check. Somehow they can counterfeit them and leave you paying the bank back and they got your stuff.

I take payment in cash only and I give a receipt. :)

Re: Craigslist Anyone?

Over the past few years I have used Craigslist to sell a motorcycle, washer & dryer, pool table, treadmill and just yesterday a recording studio microphone preamp!

I have also bought a classic Merecedes 450SL convertible from a craigslist ad, home theater seating, and my wife has bought too many chairs, sofas, dining room tables, and various other assorted furniture to name.

If someone is going to come to look at something at my home I never give them the address until I know one or more persons are going to be there. If someone is meeting me other than my home to purchase something I make the meeting in a very public and populated place like a fast food restaurant.

Experts say DO NOT sell expensive jewelry on Craigslist as there has been a rash of people being robbed and sometimes hurt or killed during those transactions.

Re: Craigslist Anyone?

I have sold a car, a cat, and a few other household items on Craigslist. I have had two people come to the house.

Most of the time, I buy stuff, and meet people in Indianapolis in a public place. I have went to one individuals home for some furniture, they were 45 min away from me, and I took a friend. We ended up talking forever, and the woman ended up going to school with one of my close friends and co workers... she knew several other people I work with. Small, small world.. never ceases to amaze me.

I am an open and pretty friendly person, and the woman who came to buy my cat spent days chatting by email back and forth before she decided to take him. Guess she had to be sure, and I didn't mind the emails. lol

So far have had a lot of luck with it.

I hear lots of success stories but must confess.....no craigslist or ebay (ever)

I'll stick with retail clearance racks or an occassional thrift store for my bargain shopping. :heeheehee

You are missing out on a lot of great deals and great avenues to sell things for more than you would get in a garage sale. I use Craigslist and ebay and have never had an issue.

You could have potentially run into the same issue if you would have put an ad in the newspaper........you did the wise thing.

You're just a mouse click away from porn using Google search if you're not careful! Had a lady call me when I worked at a call center for at&t, yelling that their internet service didn't filter Google image search results. Her 10 year old daughter and a friend got a surprise when looking up something for their schoolwork about wood. :oops

I've found jobs, our last apartment and bought/sold various items on CL without any issues.

I browser CL daily. I buy farm equipment and animals etc. I have sold things on there as well. There are scammers everywhere but a little due diligence does the job in most cases.

Just a few clicks away from porn on CL? WHAT? Where are y'all looking? Maybe you should stick with Farm & Garden. Are y'all perusing the singles? Good grief. LOL.

AFF is a couple clicks away from porn too. As a matter of fact, one time some moron posted porn ON AFF. It was deleted immediately and I never even had to report it. Good job, moderators!! :)

We bought a fantastic Rainbow swingset for our kids from Craigs list.

those suckers run $5000+ brand new.

we got ours for 500 bucks slightly used. I suspect in 5 or 8 years, we will sell it for $500 bucks.

However, I have finally found a real reason for FACEBOOK!

Our community has a Facebook page called Swap and Shop. I understand a lot of commuintes have these.

People are selling stuff like crazy. it has turned into a realy community organizer too. LOL.

I bought a 1300 chair and a half with an automan (sp) for $100 last week! way cool!

My wife has started selling the boys old clothes/toys etc and we are really cleaning out. It is awesome.

Maybe you just have to use different terminology when dealing with firearms on CL -like boomsticks, or 'heat', or fire irons, or equalizers, etc.

Yesterday at work someone showed me a website for selling and buying guns, etc that is like a craigslist for guns. It is: www.gunownersclub.com

You can select what area you live in for local deals.

Wikipedia
Current status Closed whitehouse.com was an adult and political entertainment website that first came online in 1997.
=====
Part of the controversy about whitehouse.com was that users (especially minors in most cases) wishing to visit the website of the White House (www.whitehouse.gov ) could easily go to the adult website...
=====
Many schoolchildren in the late 1990s inadvertently saw adult content via the website. [1]
=====
In December 1997, the Clinton administration sent Dan Parisi a cease and desist letter stating, "... we do not challenge your right to pursue it or to exercise your First Amendment rights, but we do challenge your right to use the White House, the President, and the First Lady as a marketing device. For adult internet users, that device is, at the least, part of a deceptive scheme. For younger Internet users, it has more disturbing consequences." [3] The letter had no effect and the site stayed up.
