I've been asked NOT to speak in tongues at this event!

I have made no promises!

Question - why go? I'd be thinking twice before attending an event where the spirit was shut down.

Why go??? Because I prayed about this invitation and felt I should accept it.

tamor 05-30-2007 02:57 PM

Sandra, I'm with CR on this one. I can see jumping through the open doors to minister to people of different faith, but why go somewhere if they specifically ask you to NOT worship the way you do?

SDG 05-30-2007 02:57 PM

Lifeway has been pretty anti-Oneness also ... they won't sell Tom Tenney or TD Jakes books ....

I made no promises, I was only asked.

Sandra Sue, may I speak from my heart?! Thankx...:heeheehee

I can see what tam and others are saying, but let me share what happened here in Flint when you came several months ago.

You rose to the mic, spoke from your heart and sang with anointing...the Spirit of God moved in the room in a REAL and powerful way, and you ministered to me greatly.

I don't recall that your spoke one word in tongues...you may have, but I don't recall it.

The point I am ineptly trying to make is that the Spirit moves in many ways and you can be YOU and real and Spirit led, bending to their wish and show the love of Christ.

We may never know who will be touched by the Spirit of God in a way they have never known before. I say go and let the Lord use you, and no, it is NOT selling out!! JMHO...:sing

This is a bunch a hooey.

They are asking you to deny a key element of your faith. I'm surprised you would let down this much. Oh well, some folks will go to any limit to receive recognition.

What's next? I guess if someone asks you not to use the name of Jesus, you will agree to that also?

If you were invited to lead a prayer at a municipal function and but could only say "Father" or "In your Name" you wouldn't do it .... PP ... just on that premise????

Steve Epley 05-30-2007 03:12 PM

I would sing for the SBC than BH the con-man. Just me. He ain't speaking in tongues he is talking in lips.

I absolutely would not. They would be dictating what is right and wrong. My doing so would send a message that the municipality was more powerful than my God.

Sell out.

Nope, cause that would be denying the faith.

Wouldn't singing at such an event, after this sort of request, send the message that one was willing to quench the Spirit of God?

LaVonne 05-30-2007 03:17 PM

I'm not sure I'd go. What if the spirit fell and you wanted to speak in tongues...

IMO, they aren't asking her to deny anything...she was asked not to speak in tongues...not demanded.

By going and being respectful, she may minister a word in due season that might not be otherwise.

Denying the faith, denying heritage, denying the power of God, accepting the rule of this world, bowing to false religion...,

Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego would be so proud!

i dont buy it! if you were asked to speak/pray at the next Presidential Inauguration i think you would do it with BELLS ON! :sing

SDG 05-30-2007 03:19 PM

I'm sure TF Tenney was asked directly or "indirectly" not to delve to deep into his beliefs at some of the venues he's attended .... and no one can even dare to call him a SELL OUT.

So, you are calling me a liar?

I just said I wouldn't do it, and I most assuradly WOULD NEVER!!!!!!!

"GL" 05-30-2007 03:21 PM

Being asked not to speak the name of Jesus....

Hmmm....

Quote:

Acts 4:18-20
18 So they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus . 19 But Peter and John answered and said to them,"Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. 20 For we cannot but speak the things which we have seen and heard." (NKJV)
Quote:

Acts 5:40-42
40 And they agreed with him, and when they had called for the apostles and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 So they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they did not cease teaching and preaching Jesus as the Christ. (NKJV)
Quote:

Col 3:17
17 And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
NKJV
I think agreeing to not to speak the name of Jesus would be anti-apostolic. Don't you?

Oh yes some of us would.
