"The Bible" History Channel Mini Series Premiere

Tonight, Sunday March 3, 22013, the brand new docu-drama mini series 'The Bible" premieres on the History Channel. (2 hours 7-9 pm CST)

Last fall I saw about a 7 minute sneak peak at this production introduced in person by the producers (Mark Burnett and his wife the actress Roma Downey).

If the entire production lives up to the sneak preview I saw then you will not want to miss this.

I only saw one extended scene with the actor playing Jesus but he was perfectly cast. They intentionally cast an actor unknown to American audiences and for once not British!

Any chance it will be broadcast online?

I am going to watch. I think they have some study guides available online.

We have it set to record but my wife will probably the one to watch the whole thing. It definitely does NOT look cheesy in any way shape or form.

On another note I did hear of a big budget remake of the story of Noah and the ark coming sometime within the year starring Russel Crowe as Noah.

Does it have to be legal? (Thinking back on the stories of people smuggling Bibles in to China, in disregard for that country's laws. :winkgrin)

I think there is a bit of a difference in the ethical dilemma presented by smuggling bibles into Communist China or the Soviet Union it its day vs stealing intellectual property.

Can one imagine if instead of The Bible they aired a 10 part mini-series called "The Koran!"? The first time Mohammed (played convincingly by Tom Hanks) appeared, a dozen cities in America and 2/3rds of them over seas would burn down in protest.

I would be shocked if a channel like the History channel does not show something similar to this about the Koran. However keep in mind it is a money thing and there are (at least right now) a whole lot more Christians in America than Muslims so the audience potential is a lot less for a mini series about Islam. A much smaller audience means much less advertising money which is what funds the budget to make it in the first place.

Similar to liberals whining about the radio success of Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity, etc when it is merely a function of the marketplace. Every time liberals try to do talk radio they fall flat on their face because they can't attract an audience. Their demographic is either in college classes having their heads filled with liberal mush or are out partying or watching Jersey Shore.

Oh, a show about the Quran, of this caliber and some marketing, would have an audience. Lots of Christians would watch, just so they could be up in arms about it! (Or celebrate it, if it was sufficiently negative. ;))

I think the pertinent thing to know about the Quron / Koran is that it states that infidels should be killed or conquered. That pretty much sums it up.

The Muslims we call "radicalized" are the ones really following the dictates of the Koran.

The "moderate" Muslims who do not follow that part of the Koran are the equivalent to the "nominal" Christians in America who claim Christianity as their religion but do not actually follow its tenants.

Back on topic: I thought the first part was beautiful! Great acting and good but limited effects. I cant wait to see the rest.

Written for kindergarten Christians. A very superficial overview and almost totally lacking in real biblical content.

Most people can't handle real biblical content. I missed it. I thought I'd catch the last hour... I was interrupted because some people don't know how to use a printer. I did some troubleshooting... and when I was done, some people DIDN'T use the stupid printer...

What did you see that was lacking? I thought it has done a good job so far presenting the Bible, I didn't see that much that was lacking. Unless you base the opinion on the KJV, and then I can see where you are coming from.

However, I did love the fact that Noah had an Irish accent, Abraham had a British accent and Moses had a Scottish accent

What was lacking was the underlying spiritual truths to the stories. For example, Abraham's encounter with the angels. There's so much going on there that's much deeper and complex than three men simply showing up.

The series is for those who have little or no idea about the stories of the bible and I guess it's a good way to give a very very basic introduction. It's far from being reflective of the actual events and their underlying spiritual truths though.

I didnt perceive them to be just 3 men. I guess it is in perspective. Of course Im not expecting much depth, but maybe it will make some folks start to seek.

It's the Bible for the MTV generation........but, I didn't have a gripe with it. It covered the basics.

Did Noah at any time complain about people always wanting to steal his Lucky Charms? Did Abraham ever see "I say I say!" or "Cheerio!"? And did Moses EVER say "I'm givin it all she's got Captain!"?

Don't know what y'all are complaining about. Most people don't know the difference between Moses and Noah. They're not gonna get it beyond more than a surface level. Pre-K is where society is at today.

It's not the Biblical story of Noah and the Ark. Instead, it's being made into an environmental/global warming/apocalypse type feature that has nothing to do with the biblical account. Apparently the director has a comic book, "Noe" that is being used as the basis. In it, the earth is a dry desert wasteland. Noah is a mage and shaman who has dreams of a coming flood. He fights 18ft tall, 6-armed fallen angels. Wrestles with killing his kins' twin babies. God is a, mean, angry being with no compassion.

Sounds like typical, modern hollywood garbage. They're hoping the name will cause christians to flock to the movie. If the early script reviews are correct, I hope it's a flop.

I'll have to take your word for it since I know nothing other than what in a single sentence saying what was coming and who was starring in it.

Based on your description it sounds like it could be the 3rd movie in the Clash of the Titans series.

There won't be any flocking to the movie - it's on TV. And, if you didn't watch it, you really don't have rights to critique it.
