A Serious Question

Dear AFF posters,

I have a very serious question to ask...ministry input would be deeply appreciated. This is the situation:

First Pentecostal Church of Marion, Indiana is having an anniversary service Labor Day weekend. My ex-husband and I pastored there in the mid 1980's after the late L. Wm. Schmidt retired.

We have all been invited: my ex-husband and his wife, my children and their families, and myself. They have asked all previous living Pastors to speak.

I went to one of their anniversary services with my children and all the former Pastors were mentioned except for us. My children didn't understand why we were left out.

You know, I know Bro. & Sis. Harris, former UPCI missionaries to Europe are good people. They intend to post pictures of all of us during the series of services.

I am not sure how I feel about going. I feel that peace between former saints and myself have been resolved, forgiven, and we have all went on with our lives. I know that I was an integral part of the ministry at FPC as assistant in 1979-1980, as well as pastors wife for many years.

I am not sure it would be a good idea to go and have all the past drug up and then have to worry about the ex and his present wife and all that family junk I just went through for my son's wedding.

Should I go? Do I have a right to go? Will it accomplish anything or make things more uncomfortable?

I would sincerely appreciate your thoughts. Be aware that my ex-husband's wife and my daughter-in-law read these posts and are on this forum quite often.

Blessings, Rhoni

Yes you have a right you were invited. As to whether you should go, you need to weigh it all out with prayer.

Call the District Supt. and talk it over with him

Rico 06-02-2007 02:02 PM

Sounds to me like it's a bad idea.

OK

The questions I want to ask may not be the ones I should ask on a public forum then.

Bro. Mooney is no longer the Dist. Superintendant. It's Bro. Robert Stroup. Bro. Stroup is an awesome man of God, you could ask him.

My sister owns a time-share condominium and we are staying in a 5 star condo on the water...I want to go and see the pyramids...have you seen them? I want to parasail, and have fun. It is just my sisters and I. There are 4 of us. My brother was invited but he is afraid of flying. Since he can't walk on water...that lets him out!:heeheehee

Sept 22- Sept 29. I like to snorkel so we'll try that. I'll get one of those water camera's and share the pictures when I get back. I'll have to take my jean skirt for the pictures though:heeheehee J/K

I am so excited about the trip.

Trouvere 06-02-2007 03:15 PM

There is a company called Belize (from Academy Sporting Goods)that makes a coverup that I wear. Its just below the knee and works for me with a white comfy t-shirt and my suit.It comes in a number of colors.

jean skirts are too hot for the summer.

DO NOT wear a jean skirt in the water!!!!! i HATEEEEEEEEEEEEE seeing that!!!! :club:club:club

depending on where you stay, the resort may offer snorkeling trips. those are good too.

if you want to "see" cancun...all of it. get on the city bus. they do a full circle. it cost $0.50. you can see EVERYTHING. the little school...where people live...EVERYTHING! we missed our stop and ended up touring the place.......lol money well spent!

LaGirl 06-02-2007 03:26 PM

you also need to take a boat ride to the Isla Mujeres. It is simply a stunningly beautiful island. we rented a golf cart and rode around. great spots to take pics with the water in the background.

Wasn't he the assistant pastor back in the late 60's for Bro Fred Kinzie in Toledo? I believe that's the guy who baptized me.

I think they are Brothers...I loved visiting the Toledo church...
do you remember Glen Miller?
Gary Puckett?
Rick Murphy?

We hung out with them and Gloria and Gail George...we had so much fun.

I don't remember Glen Miller. But I do remember Gary Puckett. Rick Murphy? That sounds familiar, but I'm not sure...........

Were you around in the days of Richie Wright? How about the Bentley's? did you know them - Victor, Monica? (siblings)

Did you know that First Apostolic sold the church on Jackman Road many years ago and built a new building out on Sylvania Ave? Nice facilities!

Absolutely remember Victor and Monica Bentley. Rick Murphy married Gloria George I thought. I dated Gary Puckett when I was 16 and Glen Miller when I was 14 & 15. Actually, I think I went out with Rick Murphy too. My sister Lana dated Dave Poling who dated Gail George...we just passed the guys around...they were all sweet and very gentlemanly.

Nostalgia...Gary Puckett...now he was a dream.

If your talking about Bro. Stroup, I don't think so. I could be wrong about him being the asst, but I'm sure that he and his wife are from Minnesota. Bro. Stroup pastored my uncle there some years back.

Robert Stroup, right? I need to get my baptismal certificate out and check, but I'm sure that's who baptized me.

He was very young at the time. And when they left Bro Kinzie's, I'm sure they went to Minnesota or Wisconson (I think it was Minnesota)

Two different Stroups...one pronounces their name: Stroop, and the other is strawp

Yeah, he pastored a church in Virginia, Minnesota. I guess we are talking about the same Stroup.
