Controversy erupted over Rolling Stone putting a smoldering picture of Boston Marathon bomber on the cover. If you didn’t know better, you’d assume this mop-topped stubbly man was the lead singer of a hot new band............

Despicable. Disgusting.

How awful for the victims and families to have to see this kid elevated to the status of a rock star.

Every retail outlet that carries the Rolling Stone Magazine ought to refuse to carry this issue and drop the magazine from being carried.

RS has the right to publish this under free speech but retailers and consumers also have the right not to carry it or purchase it.

This same concept applies to rap music and video games advocating violence and demeaning women. They may have the right to produce them but stores should have the good citizenship to refuse to carry them.

I believe CVS pharmacies arent carrying this issue. I expect nothing different from this rag, really. Look at the lifestyles they celebrate.

any magazine that would have a degrading, nude pregnant woman on the cover(Demi Moore).... have as much morals as the Porn industry IMO~

Hmm, maybe I just don't see the subtleties, but it looks to me like they called him a monster on the cover, so that's not exactly a compliment. I think the only reason people are irritated is because the kid is just so durn good looking.

I have a subscription. I skip the political section because it's always filled with ......... That being said, I saw the cover today, and I don't really see the big hoopla about it.

RS had a huge article about Gen. Stanly McCrystal that brought him down...

the writer just recently died in a strange flaming car crash...not that I am suggesting any connection between the two...

but RS has from time to time had some hard hitting news. not often mind you but every once in a while.

Re: On the cover of the Rolling Stone

has anyone actually read the article? it is interesting and scary.

i cant figure out what RS was trying to do with the cover, but IF the goal was to point out that home grown terror doesnt look like some middle east monster we all imagine, then I dont have an issue. In fact, it is instructive. It's something we all need to consider.

Here is a quote about kids like Jahar from the article.

"The problem with this demographic is that they do not know the basic narratives of their histories – or really any narratives," he says. "They're blazed on pot and searching the Internet for any 'factoids' that they believe fit their highly de-historicized and decontextualized ideologies. And the adult world totally misunderstands them and dismisses them – and does so at our collective peril," he adds.

scary.
