Utah

Just got back from Utah (with a side trip of 1 and 1/2 days in Vegas). It was a cloudless sunny day, which make for very boring photos, but I did my best.

Zion National Park

Re: Utah

And as the Sun was sinking and we were driving out of the park, we saw THESE guys.

I was using a very wide angle lens on my camera so was actually much CLOSER to the sheep than it looks in this pic. In fact I was a bit nervous when a few of the rams looked right at me and snorted.

Beautiful

An the second one with the tree barely hanging on, if I had time, I would like to paint it.

Wherever there was a crack in the rock there was a 20-40 foot tree growing out of it. I never saw that much large vegetation growing in that rocky of a place.

Some of them look surreal

Oh, here is another classic!

We walked along a short trail where all of the outdoor scenes were filmed of Kirk battling the alien Gorn. "If only he has the time Mr Chekov. If only he has the time."

Great pics Randy!

My favorite is the one with the rams. It looks like a painting!

Thanks. I wish I could show just how close I was to this heard. A few rams turned around and snorted at me and I realized I was screwed if they decided to charge.

Here are a couple of interesting pictures.

This is me snapping a photo of a mule deer that was close by chomping away near the river bed.

This is a picture of ME taking the above photo that my wife took. I think it is the much more interesting of the two.

Yes, all the time.

But then I see the photos that the REAL pro's take.

I'm no where near their league.

Have you ever done weddings for folks,
or just personal photo shoots for families
or kids?

Your pictures are pretty amazing RW... you know... all photographers have to start somewhere, they don't just get awesome overnight... maybe you need to take a course or two, and see where it takes you :)

Beautiful! I've been to both places, but when we went to Zion there was snow on the canyon walls. Thanks for sharing.

I won't take an actual paid course, like the one you would take a technical college, but I do take various tutorials -mainly in Photoshop.

This photo is at Zion but for some reason it reminds me of Middle Earth.

Re: Utah

Of course I had MANY that didn't turn out at all for various reasons. Either some setting on the camera was way out of wack or the subject of the photo made me say "Now, why did I take a picture of that?".

Here is one that simply didn't turn out for the former technical reason. We were coming out of a tunnel and it chose a shutter speed about 50 times too slow.

http://i174.photobucket.com/albums/w...ps19fedfa1.jpg

But when I ran a plethora of special tools through the picture, something interesting appeared in the distortion!

Re: Utah

Awesome picture of the horses in the canyon, absolutely amazing! You are very good RW... maybe a lesson or two by a professional photographer would help you with the more technical details of photography.

I love to take pictures myself, and would love to learn how to do better myself... I know a lot of it has to do with understanding the lighting, and knowing what your camera is capable of... the local college here offers some photography courses, and I just have never made the effort to go and see if I can learn something, and they are quite inexpensive... I probably need to go ;)

Re: Utah

I just got a new graphics tool who's version 5 is so much better than version 4 that it is tempting to go back and reprocess a whole slew of old photos.

Here is the first picture I did with it. This is a hand held (3 shot at +1, 0 and -1) HDR!

Although these were taken a few years ago, they are "mostly" in Utah, or very close to the border.

WOW! those last few are some AWESOME pics.

I remember driving through Utah years ago, coming back to Texas from Washington state. I remember the HOURS and HOURS of DESERT highway... I remember telling my kids 'this is probably what gehenna looks like'. lol
