Respectfully, I disagree with those who believe the Holy Ghost is an added benefit, subsequent to salvation. From what I've read in the Bible and what has been included here, is that the baptism of the Holy Ghost is part and parcel to salvation.

Listen, as long as someone isn't pushing their view on me, I can fellowship with them. Now, understand, it is a different environment on a debate forum like AFF. Most people, in my experience, aren't in your face about it outside of a debate forum.

LOL! One time I was listening to her and she mentioned something about I Cor not meaning you can't cut your hair. You could hear a pin drop throughout the whole arena. I was surprised that people weren't really sure if they believed that or not. It shows that people want to make up their own minds and take the Word more seriously than we think.

Anyway, I was listening to some worship videos and saw the link, so I clicked it. I don't normally listen to her, but at least she doesn't scream. I can't stand women speakers who scream.

I read her book, some years ago, Seven Things that Steal Your Joy. I don't recall ever reading a book where I felt so much peace in my spirit. I was rather surprised. I was thinking, "It is really possible to feel joy on this earth." That was outside of being in the presence of God we feel when we pray.

When my son wasn't in church, I rarely said anything to him at all. From my experience, if God doesn't do it, it won't be done. Nothing I ever say, without His leading, is going to change anything.

I guess this is hijacking this thread, but yesterday I had forgotten about a song I listened to, a few years ago, when I was going through the worst and darkest time in my life - Set Me Free by Casting Crowns. I thought that death would be better than life. When I heard it yesterday, I thought, "Oh my goodness, I am totally free." I had forgotten how dark it really felt for me. God is good! :thumbsup

As with my Dad there is nothing he can say. He gushes about his church and whats going on and try and tell him about ours and he could care less. He sends me preaching CD's and I put them in the draw and give them back when I see him. Oh well!

And giving a praise report is never hijacking a thread is is giving glory to God!!!! Don't you love it when you can look back and see victory? God is good!:thumbsup

Re: 88 Benefits to Receiving the Spirit

This isn't directed at you, Navy, just questions I have.

With all these benefits listed, including the direct ties to salvation...why would anyone shy away from the Holy Ghost (or for those more contemporary and refined, the Holy Spirit)? It's what gives us power. How can someone be saved and not have the power of the Holy Ghost inside of them? It's like receiving the gift of a brand, new sports car...with nothing under the hood. Looks great, but nothing to give it power.

I have some dear friends who are HG filled mind you, but they cringe at any message that is preached about receiving the Holy Ghost....especially on the necessity of receiving the Holy Ghost.

I just don't understand why people are afraid of the Holy Ghost.

This reminds of something Papa George used to say.

"I dont know why anyone would want to go to heaven without the Holy Ghost"

Well, I personally would rather someone really believe in what they believe and not be a squish. I can respect that more. Your dad gives me the impression he can't fathom another way to believe. I don't call that stubborn any more than I think you are stubborn in what you believe.

Yes, a praise report is good. And now that my husband made the decision on a major change for us, I am feeling much, much better. :thumbsup

I wonder if Jesus enjoyed all 88 benefits?

Luk 4:1 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness,

I ain't even gonna ask about Him speaking in tongues when He 'got' the Holy Ghost.

:bliss

So Jesus was baptized by one spirit into his own body? Jesus was washed, sanctified ,and justified ...by the spirit of our God?

but we already have a thread on that subject , so let's stay on the topic of this thread.

These verses have really brought me closer to the Lord of late. It's hard to stay focused on ones problems when confronted with all of this shouting material!!

houston 10-15-2013 05:52 PM

I don't know any Christians that believe you don't need the Holy Ghost.

Speaking in tongues is a different issue...

but we already have a thread on that subject , so let's stay on the topic of this thread.

These verses have really brought me closer to the Lord of late. It's hard to stay focused on ones problems when confronted with all of this shouting material!!

Amen, it's always good to get closer to the Lord.

Please don't misunderstand me, but I believe that every blood bought child of the King should earnestly seek for the Holy Ghost the promise of the Father, with the initial evidence of speaking in other tongues as the Spirit gives utterance.

There is nothing better than being in a service with Spirit filled believers and worshiping Christ.

I love our church it is very Pentecostal and its roots in Pentecost are deep and wide.

I looked up the phrases "Spirit", "Holy Spirit", and "Holy Ghost". Below are 88 benefits to having recieved the Spirit. Some are repetative. I was really blessed meditating in these passages. The ones highlited deal with salvation/ our direct standing with God...

4) The gift of God, eternal life (John 4:10,13)[/b]

I would extent this to verse 14 as well. (John 4:10,13-14)

That was a typo I guess because it is in my notes.
