Who's Afraid of Bro. Epley?

Some around are talking about pastors that intimidate, bully and abuse the church folks. Well have you taken a good look at Bro. Epley's avatar? He sure don't look very intimidating to me. :happydance

I haven't yet met a pentecostal preacher that could hold a candle to Verbal Bean or OR Fauss.

Much less someone like Charles Finney, John Wesley, Jonathan Edwards, George Whitefield, or George Fox.

Let's not even mention John the Baptist, Ezekiel, Jeremiah, or Isaiah.

And just forget Moses.

I hold Elder Epley in high regard. I have heard him. He doesn't mince words but his attitude is awesome. My former pastor and current also hold Elder Epley in high regard. I do trust the caliber of men my former pastor would fellowship. So . . . nope not afraid but do have great respect. :thumbsup

I've never been afraid of Epley nor do I think we would have cross words if we met. I would visit his church in a heartbeat but would never attend it as a member.

Besides, I am sure he would appreciate some good HDR photos of the inside/outside of his church building for various newsletter purposes. :)

Not quite sure the reason for this thread.

Epley is to be pitied, not feared. The poor feller doesn't understand that the body of Christ is much much larger than those of his particular religious persuasion.

He's missing fellowship with the body of Christ and that's sad.

The reason: I read several posts of late about preachers that are bullies and try to intimidate folks into giving up their money. Some of it seemed to me to be directed toward Bro. Epley and I was just amazed at the way he answers with a Christ like attitude.

I really don't know him other than posts I've read the past several years, but as someone who HAS had a "bully" for a pastor, Epley doesn't seem to be one. Now again, maybe he IS and just doesn't show his true colors here, but have no reason to think so.

Now he has made many bold proclamations over the years that I have disagreed with completely, which is why I wouldn't be a member of his congregation, but would not fear visiting it.

Well this post begs the question, do you believe that Bro. Epley is in the body of Christ?

I suppose God has been good to me. I have only had one pastor since i have been in truth, and he is a man of Bro. Epley's calibar. I have had aquaintences with many tremendous men of God and it seems like everytime i meet one or develop a friendship with another minister, that my respect for the ministry is only strengthened. I know some have had opposite experiences, but bitterness is not the answer.

Bro. Epley is a tremendous man of God. One of my friends who preached at his church recently told me "If you can't get the Holy Ghost at Bro. Epley's church, you're just not gonna get it". lol

I am not afraid of Bro. Epley but there is something I want to say. In years gone by Bro. Epley represented everything that had hurt me and the things he said just reopened wounds that were freshly closing and I would get very angry with him. I still do not agree with probably most of what he says. However, I would like to apologize for being as harsh and angry as I was. I will still sometimes state my opinion which will be in direct contrast with Bro. Epley's, however, I will try not to hold him as representative of everything that has hurt me now. Alright, I feel a little lighter now. :)

Generally no one is a afraid of a short stumpy bald headed preacher. Don't have much of an intimidation factor. Have no desire for anyone to fear me. Never pastored with threats and fear. Not my style.

Confession is good for the soul! I agree with what you say totally. I too, struggled with Epley's declarations many times, because I knew he fellowshiped with the pastor who has caused so much destruction in our family. However, like you, I realize that just because he at one time fellowshiped with these type of people does not mean he employed the exactly same tactics in his own congregation. Doesn't mean in any way I would always agree with the man, but I certainly don't dislike him, fear him, or wish him (or any others who believe/fellowship with him) any harm, and in fact pray that the Lord would bless and encourage him.

I'd just like an answer to the last questions that I asked bro epley.....

"Gosh, I dunno. Do you and the Lambeth feller have the same fellowship circles? Have you fellowshipped with folks who have allowed infants and children, husbands and wives to die for lack of medical attention?

We might make some sort of connection here."
