Double Whammy
Not only is Jesus specifically saying that He's not God, He's giving yet another plan of salvation. I don't know anyone personally who follows this plan though, it's a difficult one.
Mat 19:16 And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life? Mat 19:17 And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments. Mat 19:18 He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Mat 19:19 Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself. Mat 19:20 The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet? Mat 19:21 Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me. |
Re: Double Whammy
He did not say 'I am not God'. He pointed out that since 'none is good except God, why are you calling me good?'
Since YOU deny he is God, then why would you think he is good? |

First as this would still be old testament times of course Jesus pointed to the law and commanded it be kept for salvation. Secondly the principle that one must live a righteous life so as to remain saved is still taught today. No where in this passage does Jesus say He is not God rather by His question He is along the man if he is calling Jesus God. |

Jesus said only one was good, His God, and didn't point to Himself as that person. |

Re: Double Whammy
He was the perfect man. He could've said, "you're right, I am good" and he wouldn't have been lying. But He was the Son of God. Do sons of God go about thinking they're good or statig they're good? No. Paul said "Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus." He did not grasp after equality with God, He made of Himself no reputation. He was humble and obdient. Wherefore God has given Him a name that is highly exalted.

Didn't Joel Hemphill try to resurrect the Jesus isn't God message recently?

For the record, I don't completely agree with his view. |

Now, since YOU say he is not God, you must then believe he is not good. For, according to his own words, NOBODY (including himself) is good EXCEPT GOD. Either he is good, which must mean he is God, or he is not God, which must mean he is not good. |

Apparently Hemphill believes in 'divine flesh' as well (ie Jesus is not descended from Adam in any way).
From one heresy into another. |

So, since there is none good except God, and Jesus is not God, Jesus must not be good. |

Stick with scripture. Jesus didn't claim to be God in the passage, simple as that. |

So you think jesus is not "good"? |
Re: Double Whammy
Sorry just read that this was already discussed .. Carry on

Re: Double Whammy
I am not saying that in this passage Jesus came out and said that He was God blatantly but at the same time He does not deny it.

Mat 1:20 But while he thought on these things, behold, the angel of the Lord appeared unto him in a dream, saying, Joseph, thou son of David, fear not to take unto thee Mary thy wife: for that which is conceived in her is of the Holy Ghost.
Puleeeze tell me how he wasn't God, if he was conceived of God. |

2Pe 3:16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

I like David's testimony.
Psa 119:127 Therefore I love thy commandments above gold; yea, above fine gold. Psa 119:128 Therefore I esteem all thy precepts concerning all things to be right; and I hate every false way. |
Re: Double Whammy
I'm guessing you don't follow this plan of salvation?
Luk 18:18 And a certain ruler asked him, saying, Good Master, what shall I do to inherit eternal life? Luk 18:19 And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? none is good, save one, that is, God. Luk 18:20 Thou knowest the commandments, Do not commit adultery, Do not kill, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honour thy father and thy mother. Luk 18:21 And he said, All these have I kept from my youth up. Luk 18:22 Now when Jesus heard these things, he said unto him, Yet lackest thou one thing: sell all that thou hast, and distribute unto the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come, follow me. Do not be dismayed my brother, not many do. |
