However as representatives of our Lord, we should make sure that if we wear a beard it is well kept and professional.

I tried growing a beard, but because I could not make it look proper, I decided that I was better off without it.

Scripturally, though, I think the wearing of beards has far more support than being clean shaven. (However, I certainly don't think that a "professional" look has any correlation to godliness.--FlamingZ) By contrast, I don't think there's enough scriptural support to make beard wearing a salvational issue.

I do agree that it's an easy distinction between male and female, and it really does baffle me that most Apostolics have shunned this particular practice, considering the emphasis on gender distinction in other areas.

A related question is this. How many people here that are ok with beards attend Churches where perhaps one is allowed to have one but cannot stand on the "platform" with one?

Grew it to be Jesus in our drama. Never shaved it off afterward, then I was told to chose between the beard and my position as outreach director, one or the other had to go.
Have had the beard every since, a few years ago...

(It's a platform rule too.)

I've tried growing mine out...but after several days growth it gets unbearably itchy. Can't stand it. I have a soul patch. I've had a full goatee, half goatee and a vertical strip on the chin.

Huh? Lev 19 is addressed to "all the congregation of the children of Israel". But that sill isn't you, though, I agree. So it should be fine to trim your beard or prostitute your daughter. I guess. :lol

That's the tragedy. Apostolics KNOW Christ had a beard. Yet they think somehow its wrong, or that he was not well groomed or "professional" looking!

Furthermore at least when I really wanted to be in an "Apostolic" Church you were outright considered in sin. How could I invite people to Churches that taught it was sinful to wear a beard? To have to explain to people altho this is the "true Church" they forbid wearing something Christ wore?

We tried another Apostolic Church last year. Same type of thing. No fellowship at all. Same platform rule.

That's because by and large legalism has stunted the growth of Apostolic Pentecost. We're weighted down with too many man made rules and dogmas. And God will visit those who have done this. I shudder to think how God will deal with almost an entire generation when they stand before Him.

Let's step back and think about this. Why would God made growing a beard a sin when he designed our bodies and the propensity to grow a beard in the first place? Could God outlaw underarm hair? Leg hair?

The point is that the silliness of this entire question begs for one to question the very idea behind such a God who would major in such minors.

Every religion has its "traditions" and "mythologies" that are man made and designed to control. God is a spirit. God is love. Anything that brings an unbalanced focus on the flesh over the spirit and causes division, divisiveness, pride, and condemnation is not of God.

The God of our Bible likes and dislikes certain things because he is a living, personal being unlike the new age dogma of such as Matthew Fox.

The no facial hair rule has no scriptural backing. Anytime I've asked a UPC minister, it's the same answer -- hippies and the 60s.

the hippies are basically gone and we are not longer in the 60s.

and the curious thing is that some of the earliest Pentecostal ministers had beards, there are pictures of them, and back then there was not Photoshop to say those are faked pictures.
