LOL...... Now you know down here in the deep south, if you had seen at least 6 snowflakes, they would have had to close the schools. ;-) |

I saw a snowflake too! Here is our BBQ grill that we didn't put away because sometimes we BBQ in winter. We better get it cleared off before it collapses!! LOL!

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Gracious. What is GOING ON? The rest of the country is getting winter, and we are in spring here in the far northwest! Now that is craziness!!

Seriously, the weather is strange the last few years. |
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Well actually, I would prefer to get some more snow. I am worried about not enough nitrogen in the soil when spring comes for my garden. We are way below our snow accumulation here.
|
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Yeah, not enough snow isn't good. :(
|
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
We had snowflakes and sleet and it stuck and stayed the next day too. They say we have more coming, and it even went down into Florida. The Causeway to New Orleans was closed, what you think about that?

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
We were just talking about getting some more propane....

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
What is really sad is in the oil fields, all the excess propane is just burned off, because there is no method in place to collect the excess propane. So, while the country is burning up propane because of the cold, the North Dakota oil fields are burning excess propane as waste!

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
That's infuriating!
|
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
I think natural gas and propane are different though.

As a matter of fact (as you already know)the deep south is under a winter storm watch for tomorrow thru Wednesday. It's 60 degrees here right now so I don't know if they know what they're talkin bout! :p But, anyway, they've already cancelled school and most work for Tuesday AND Wednesday and not even a hint of a snowflake around!!! :heeheehee I really do hope they are wrong about this sleet and snow they've predicted for us though! :blink |

We just are not used to it and most places don't even have the equipment to keep the roads clear. |

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
I'm pretty far down south, but they are predicting snow and sleet for our area. We are never prepared for extreme cold, because it rarely comes, so we do not keep warm clothes, boots, jackets and hats on hand. We don't know how to drive in the snow, so bridges are usually closed to prevent accidents from happening. Stay warm all you who are going to be affected by the Arctic Blast. I'm so thankful that have a very warm home.

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
We also use propane gas for our heaters and hot water.
I bought 75 gallons a few weeks ago and it was close to $200. Normally lasts us a good while but since we're having these really cold days, we're using more. We also use a couple of space heaters that work pretty good in the bedrooms. |
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Right now it is almost $5.00 a gallon!
|
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Propane is processed from oil or natural gas.

Just got a recorded call from the power company telling us to be prepared. Whatever that means.

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Propane has gone way up. I doubt you could find it for that now.

We are finally getting some snow here today, have gotten about 3-4" already, and it is soo pretty... about to get out and go hiking in a bit with the dogs.

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Sick of this COLD weather and ice!!
2 days of not being able to go anywhere is the pits!! Ok I'm ready for Spring now! :D |
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
So back home in the Great state of Louisiana, they got a half inch of freezing precip....
at least a half dozen communities put out a curfew because of it! Serously! the Po-Po are going to ARREST anyone out on the streets at night because it got cold? I am starting to get a bit peeved at my home state for the nannyism and the unconstitutional police state tacticts. AND at my friends and family who are making the excuse that they are "just trying to keep everyone safe". we here is a news flash. YOU CANT KEEP EVERYONE SAFE. |
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
I guess I'd have to be there to understand...because I'm having difficulty understanding this...
Motorists in Atlanta were stranded on freeways for 18 hours. People slept in grocery stores and pharmacies? School kids were stuck on buses overnight? And I read there was 2-3 inches of snow that fell there. 2-3 inches and they turned the freeway into a parking lot! Again, I guess I'd have to be there, cause growing up in the midwest, 2-3 inches was barely a snowfall. |

these people dont know how to deal with it. I can promise you, if my kid was stuck on a bus, I would walk there and take him home. |

Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
LOL... we got 4" of snow here today and let me tell you, I was HAPPY!!!!! Of course, we are prepared here to get that kind of weather, and I haven't really seen any weather here that slows people down. They just get out their four wheelers and snowmobiles if they have to.
I can't imagine the freeways being turned into parking lots, must have been a nightmare! In all honesty, ice is very difficult to drive on, and unless you have have four-wheel drive, studs or chains, it can be an adventure! My friend, who I hike with every week, lives on a road that is not maintained by the county, and for the past month, it has been a skating rink, with about 3-4" of ice covering the road. Just taking it slow and not using your brakes seems to work best to get down to her place. An adventure to be sure, but I love it! |
Re: I Saw A Snowflake!!!
Anyone from the ATL, Georgia or Alabama area where they had this paralyzing ice and 2-inch snowfall? I've seen a few video clips on FB of cars just piled up all over the road.
The story of the Chick-fil-a owner who made several hundred sandwiches to feed the stranded motorists was awesome! They not only made several hundred sandwiches that day, but opened the building for people to sleep there during the night, and the next morning served breakfast free of charge! |
