Fred Phelps is dead

Fred Phelps, former head of Westboro Baptist Church, died, family member says

Fred Phelps Sr., the former head of the Westboro Baptist Church, died late Wednesday night, according to a family member.

Phelps' son, Timothy told 13 News that his father died just before midnight. Timothy Phelps works at the Shawnee Co. Jail.

From the news I read, there will be no funeral. Apparently they want to avoid someone doing to them what they've done to countless others.

Jesus said, do unto others as you would have them do unto you.... guess they intend to make sure what happens to them is not what they dished out to others.

At any rate, I pray for healing and God's mercy on this family, and church. It is a sad thing to have such bitter hate in your heart.

I hope there's no one left willing to carry on his work! I'm saddened when anyone dies, but this country could be a little quieter with him gone!

The church is still there. In fact, they kicked Phelps a while back. The reasons are not certain, but two of his estranged kids said it was because he began advocating a "softer line". The church would hear of that.

But who knows? Maybe that church will begin to crumble under the weight of its own vitriol. One can only hope.

Sadly, two things sell well in many societies, fear and hate. Oft times they go hand in hand.

Hopefully this blot on Christianity, and society in general, is beginning to fade.
