Below are Catholic Confessions about

He makes this confession,
as to the origin of the chief Trinity text of Matthew 28:19.
"The basic form of our (Matthew 28:19 Trinitarian)m
profession of faith took shape
during the course of the second and third centuries,
in connection with the ceremony of baptism.
So far as its place of origin is concerned,
the text (Matthew 28:19) came from the city of Rome.
“The Trinity baptism and text of Matthew 28:19,

speaks of baptizing "in the name of Jesus,"..."

The Lord's Command To Baptize
An Historical Critical Investigation.
By Bernard Henry Cuneo page 27.
"The passages in Acts and the Letters of St. Paul.
These passages seem to point,
to the earliest form as baptism in the name of the Lord."
Also we find.
"Is it possible to reconcile these facts with the belief,
that Christ commanded his disciples,
to baptize in the trine form?
Had Christ given such a command, it is urged,
the Apostolic Church would have followed him,
and we should have some trace of this obedience,
in the New Testament.
No such trace can be found.
The only explanation of this silence,
according to the anti-traditional view,
is this the short Christological (Jesus Name),
formula was (the) original,
and the longer trine formula was a later development."

The baptizer called upon/ over the BURIED candidate
the 'name of the LORD Jesus, our Savior.'
Calling on the name of the LORD
can be found throughout the ’Israelite Scriptures.’
To call God by his name,
to get his attention and a response,
was always the sensible Israelite custom.
Gentiles join the Israelite GOD and his children
by obeying his simple teachings of the Apostles.
The candidate MUST also

for forgiveness and a good life,

Doesn't Paul seem to imply that people were dividing themselves over baptism, even in his days as a Missionary?

Was Paul just imagining these divisions?
Were these divisions a figure of speech?

yes or no
Paul was not saying people divided over baptism itself, as such, but over WHO baptized them. There were not variations of baptism back then as there is now since the second century. In fact, Paul implied it was in Jesus' name, when he asked them if he baptized people in his own name, which everyone knew was actually in Jesus' name.

Once this quote is read in context it becomes apparent that Ratzinger is not saying that the text of Matthew 28:19 formed or took shape or originated in the second and third centuries in Rome. It seems to me that the whole article cited to create this thread is bogus in the light of the above evidence.

Well at least he is confessing that the so called Apostle's creed is not really the Apostle's creed, but a fabrication of Rome, which makes one wonder if they fabricated the Apostle's creed, what else did they fabricated? How about also Matthew 28:19.

Regardless, the Catholic Church believes that the church has all authority over traditions and sacraments. Therefore, it shouldn't surprise us if we do find that the Catholic church changed various things.

Since presumably the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit IS Jesus, there should be no problem with baptizing in the name of the Father Son and Holy Spirit.

In my experience anytime a single piece of evidence is put forth that is as outright deceitful as the evidence about cardinal ratzinger then that source has a preponderance of deceit.

If saying that this statement is found in volume 4 under “Baptism” is not enough to suggest that something fishy is going on, for what Encyclopedia doesn’t get to the letter “B” until the fourth-volume in a five-volume series?, then surely the fact that this sentence as quoted reads like it was picked up in mid-sentence should be an obvious tipoff.

As it turns out, by actually consulting the above resource, the words actually come from the section on “Sacraments” rather than the section on “Baptism,” and just like it appears the quote comes midstream in a fuller sentence. Furthermore, and most significantly, the snippet is not even a statement of the author as to that which he holds on the matter, but is rather a description of what some others say about it, to which the author goes on to register his objection. Here is what the contributing author to ISBE, J. C. Lambert, actually says in context:

The assumption made above, that both Baptism and the Lord’s Supper owe their origin as sacraments of the church to their definite appointment by Christ Himself, has been strongly challenged by some modern critics.

Calling on the name of the LORD
can be found throughout the ’Israelite Scriptures.’
To call God by his name,
to get his attention and a response,
was always the sensible Israelite custom.
Gentiles join the Israelite GOD and his children
