Gone Charismatic Question

I have a question regarding some of the UPC pastors who have "gone charismatic" and left the mother ship.

In particular I am interested in finding out if there are any major pastors / churches in Atlanta or anywhere in Georgia that fit this description.

I know of major pastors in Austin, Houston, and Dallas Texas who have left the org. over the last few years but never hear anything about Atlanta which is another major metro area in the Bible Belt so I am interested.

Henry Jones did years ago. He was in the AMF.

Sadly that is him. His BIL pastors in Pensacola Elder B. W. Adams. This happened in the late 70's or early 80's. This was Kenneth Morgan's church before he went to Laurel, Ms. Henry took it after H. B. Morgan who was pastor died. The church split as a result of this the other church is in Morrow, Ga.
Also my wife's cousin Mark Abernathy in Snellville has done the same. I think it is called Connectpoint or something goofy like that?

I have heard the name Mark Abernathy but don't know anything about him. At the Jone's church website I did notice that her earrings seem bigger than most I remember at AMF meetings!:happydance

So that's really Jones? WOW! Actually Duncan (or something like that, he was an evangelist from Indiana) took the church from the Elder Morgan and Kenneth split the church and brought Jones in from MS. to take the split. What a mess.

Lloyd Dunnigan has the other church. Your recollection is correct. Thanks. But it all happened in very close proximity.

Dunnigan! You are right. Nice guy. Kenneth fell out with him about year later. Jones was in West Point, MS. Wasn't Jones Church of God or Assembly of God before, then later he and Morgan in the AMF?

Henry Jones had been a Church of God preacher whom Morgan had 'converted?' I really don't remember if Kenneth ever really belong though his dad H. B. helped form the AMF. He preached a lot for them I will try to find out.

By the way the only time I was ever in service at Christ Church in Nashville I ran into Henry Jones' daughter. I am very good friends with his sister and her husband who pastor in Pensacola.

Hey, thanks for asking this question, I've always wondered this too. I know I live here, but IRL, I know zero people of the apostolic persuasion, the church that I attended in GA was a little home missions church several towns over that pretty much disappeared, so I was never really in the know about anything going on UPC-wise in GA.

I've been talking about visiting an apostolic church. (ILG & I chronicle our church forays here: http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com...ad.php?t=46050 ). I think to me, it would be proof positive that I have fully recovered, forgiven, healed, moved on, etc., from my past experiences. To see if I can really see it through unfiltered eyes (neither the love/obsession of the beginning, or the angry pain and darkness of the end).

The first two are too far for mere curiosity sake, but the Snellville one is doable. Though my husband will probably freak at the idea, and there is no way he'd let me bring Avery, though she would LOVE the music, she would soooo Shockamoo!

Anymore info Bro. Epley?

The church in Buford is just that a real church with a great pastor not a charismatic want to be church.

:heeheehee This made me laugh!

The subject of the thread was questioning if any churches in the Atlanta area have "gone charismatic". I chimed in because I am an ex-UPC'er, who lives about an hour from the city. So when the previous poster mentioned the church in Buford, I was surprised because I remember it as being very conservative, hence my question. (BTW, I never implied anything negative about the church or the pastor, simply that it was conservative)

I bet you would actually consider a "Charismatic-want-to-be church" a step up from the church I actually go to, that is in no way connected to the Pentecostal or charismatic movement.
