Apostolic Music
The last 10 years or so I was in the OP movement I was in, I noticed a disturbing trend in the music. I notice it is still there when I listen to some OP service music. It is usually this chanting type sound and so much repetition. To me, that was never conducive to worship. Anybody else feel this way?

You are just getting old!

Re: Apostolic Music
A lot of the newer stuff I just don't care for and find hard to worship with.
A couple of Sunday nights ago we sang a couple of fairly new choruses and the a couple not so new. Then for the offering we played "Just a Closer Walk With Thee". I started singing the old song and the entire crowd stood and started worshipping, Some where weeping and some started walking the isle with their hands raised and a 25 year old backslidden young man came to the altar and prayed back through |

If you were wanting to introduce a friend to Apostolic Music what would you present?

One I already posted about is Rhythm of Heaven. Unfortunately, IHOP had it removed from YouTube, so the one I posted previously is no longer available. That was a mind numbing song which dragged on for over 12 minutes, during which Bickle claimed to give a prophetic word and Misty told about a dream in sing song. In between was the chant, "listen to the rhythm, the rhythm of heaven," over and over and over using varying beats.
A good read on it can be read HERE |

It has been a little while since I have been to a UPCI church but from what I remember the music is always is on 10 and the piano player and the drummer totally rip off Jerry Lee Lewis!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xtolv9kM1qk HANK WILLIAMS LYRICS "I Saw The Light" I wandered so aimless life filled with sin I wouldn't let my dear saviour in Then Jesus came like a stranger in the night Praise the Lord I saw the light. I saw the light I saw the light No more darkness no more night Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light. Just like a blind man I wandered along Worries and fears I claimed for my own Then like the blind man that God gave back his sight Praise the Lord I saw the light. I saw the light I saw the light No more darkness no more night Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light. I was a fool to wander and a-stray Straight is the gate and narrow the way Now I have traded the wrong for the right Praise the Lord I saw the light. I saw the light I saw the light No more darkness no more night Now I'm so happy no sorrow in sight Praise the Lord I saw the light. |
Re: Apostolic Music
I have asked someone to put up what they consider to be good Apostolic music. I am taking for granted the 2 that have been posted were done in a joking manner.
Now bring the TRUE Apostolic music that some are so fond of. If its that good turn some of us onto it. I mean if its more deeply spiritual than the Charismatic/Messianic style I like I would want to add it to my listening/worshipping time. |

Music and worship are tricky things. When you have incredibly skilled people as musicians/singers, it is an area that Satan can use to his advantage, and instead of the music drawing people to worship the Lord, music can actually be used as a tool by the enemy by which pride in the heart of the skilled musician/singer is offensive to the moving of the spirit. So... just to say that a certain genre or style of music is a deterrent to true worship taking place, I think that pointing fingers at a style of music needs to be taken one step further. If the musician is truly intending to honor, and worship the Lord with their musical talents and abilities, I believe the spirit of the Lord will bless and there will be a sweet presence of the Lord (for the most part). But if entertainment and perfection becomes the name of the game, and gimmicks, and different man-made elements are used to try to usher in worship.... it most likely won't accomplish its goal, and will remain just pure entertainment. |

One of the most well known Pentecostal musicians/singers that I enjoyed hearing the most was Sis. Janice Sjostrand. Her worship and love for the Lord were expressed so beautifully in her music. There was a thread on here with some videos posted about Sis. Janice, and I'll post this one here for those who have never heard of her: (She starts singing around the 10:30 mark or so). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QhZRJxG_OFQ If you want to go to the thread here on AFF with more videos of Sis. Janice, it is here: http://www.apostolicfriendsforum.com...oman+flat+sing |

Re: Apostolic Music
I am old school when it comes to music. Modern/contemporary worship music tends to mostly get on my nerves. IHOP drives me batty. Sorry MtD. :blink
I like traditional choirs and black gospel, hymns, older choruses, singing out of the hymnbook...sigh. :) When I was a teenager, I attended a trinitarian holiness school, and I particularly loved the music portion of chapel and the occasional church services. They were all accustomed to singing out of the hymnal and they would also sing in parts. The accompaniment was simple--usually just a piano. I LOVED it. I loved that the voices were the biggest part of the experience, and not just the worship leader--his voice blended in with everyone else's. The congregation sang together and it was beautiful. I like solos, too, though....I LOVE to hear my sisters sing, and other great singers in Pentecost or the Christian music world. I just kind of dislike the role of the "modern" worship leader. Sometimes it works, and other times it's very diva-like and the congregation is left behind. |

I just find it interesting that you sing the songs written by people who by your own confession you believe do not know God. You sure are quick to condemn them to hell while at the same time singing their songs and using Bibles they translated. Lol. Where would YOUR CHURCH be without the aid of those wretched lost trinitarians. To think millions of them even claim to have the Holy Ghost just like you. Ahh, you probably say "its not the REAL Holy Ghost." Right. Y'all should sing "I'm a Pentecostal" it would be right up your alley. |
