The dupatta is worn by many women in India whether they are Hindu or Christian, it is part of Indian traditions based in their ancient culture and not from Christianity or Islam.

Covering the head with a dupatta is done by the women in order to show respect.

Hindu women cover their head either in front of their elders also when they go to temple as devotees.

That is what I was thinking. I am betting most of the women having a head covering is just a cultural thing and not something the UPCI work in India is teaching. Particularly since that would be a misunderstanding of the bible! LOL

We just can not allow the Hindus to outholy our Apostolic woman, we can do better than that.

From now on, I hereby decree that all Apostolic women shall wear burqas.
and to make sure we go above the Muslims, we shall require also our women to wear dark sunglasses, long sleeve dark gloves and wear dark long socks. lest anyone be tempted by their eyes, their hands or their feet. :happydance

Ephesians mentions submission and headship and doesn't mention the headcovering like Corinthians. Why is that?

I was an Elder in a Church pastored by an Indian believer many years ago. He taught the headcovering from scripture. He was raised in the Ceylon Pentecostal Mission a very large Pentecostal org. found mainly in India. They teach it very strong from scripture not just because others do it.

Her hair is a covering provided by nature. Paul uses her hair as an illustration of the subject. The head covering he is promoting by the Holy Spirit is something that is done when one PRAYS OR PROPHESIES. 1 Cor 11:5.

A woman cannot take her hair off and put it back on when she prays or prophesies. His primary topic is veiling. The hair is just an example from nature...a secondary mention.

Mike it isn't about taking something on and off, the Apostle is talking about headship. Hence the reason he brings in the issue of a man having uncut hair makes him look vile and disgusting. God isn't into napkins, or handkerchiefs covering the woman's head, and the man in the OT covered his head during a time of mourning. The sentence is clear....

1st Corinthians 11:15

But a woman, if she should have tresses of hair [a glory to her is it]; for the hair of the head INSTEAD OF a wrap is given to her.

Mike, this is simple and very plain, the uncut hair is given to the woman instead of the turban (περιβολαιου means to wrap around )

Yet, we still have the word αντί where w get the English word "anti" as in Antichrist. This word means instead of, or in the place of, meaning the hair is to be used instead of or in the place of the turban.

Apostolic "Pentecostal" never seemed to go beyond Oneness and Acts 2:38. To cover up the shallowness thereof they invent doctrines like the headcovering is the natural covering of hair. And that if a woman trims it she goes to Hell.

I'm not going to argue the merits either way, but I will say this:

It is very Godly and beautiful to see the covering when embraced en masse.

I would much rather see the things given in the pics Michael provided, than the super-do's and flowers and what-not that many modern OP women embrace.
