Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
This was just on the news this afternoon. It is shocking. 40,000 Christians from the largest Christian city in Iraq have fled the city to a mountaintop, and are in dire need.
"According to the U.N., between 35,000 and 50,000 fled to nearby Mount Sinjar and other areas, "reportedly surrounded by ISIS armed elements" and lacking water and other aid. The Washington Post detailed dire circumstances, reporting Thursday that thousands of families hiding on Mount Sinjar are desperate for help and that Iraqi government airdrops of aid are not sufficient. According to the Post, some water bottles also cracked open during the drop. Reuters reported Thursday that a rescue is underway, and some of the thousands trapped on the mountain have been brought to safety. " I have been praying for persecuted Christians around the world, but we need to especially hold these people up before the Lord, and to realize that their needs today, may one day be our own here, if these kind of terrorist acts ever get to be carried out on our American soil. |

Amen. Praying for these families!
We sure sometimes don't even begin to imagine what real persecution is. :( |

I meant to include the link to the article in my previous post, and just realized I didn't. Here it is:

They are not Christians. Nonetheless yes do be praying for them. They are Yazidi. If they were Christians our country probably would not consider helping them. Muslims will kill anybody and everybody who will not convert.

Re: Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
We ARE helping them. Haven't you heard? The Great America will be air dropping them water so when they are beheaded by ISIS they can have a smile on their faces....sad

Re: Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
I am glad they are helping them at least with water. If they were Christians I doubt they would be helping.

Re: Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
Well good grief!
Even if they were Christians, they would be going to hell for not obeying Acts 2:38 as prescribed by the 20th century new birth, water and spirit, Apostolic preachers. |

And people continue to claim Islam is a peaceful religion. smh

Re: Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
The news report said they were Christians. I didn't realize they were Yazidi, and actually had never even heard of Yazidi until MTD mentioned, and then I looked them up. Apparently Yazidi are a group of people who have combined just about every religion in the world, including Islam and Christianity into one.
Regardless of who these people are, we need to pray for them. The series of events happening in Iraq is showing exactly how these militant people think, and that their greatest desire is to take this kind of warfare to American soil. |

I imagine their GREATEST desire is more intense than bloodshed. After all, islam is a religion of peace. They have a motivation-- bloodshed is their means to get their desire. |

Re: Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
While I wouldn't support the use of troops, I do support using drones, jets and cruise missiles against ISIS to help these people trapped.
Since we're bombing, we might as well target the leadership of ISIS along with any other installations they control. |
Re: Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
Muslims? I know, they hate us. Who cares. They are being massacred. Seems that I recall that we should "pray for them which despitefully use you".

Yazidi
A historically misunderstood group, the Yazidis are predominantly ethnically Kurdish, and have kept alive their syncretic religion for centuries, despite many years of oppression and threatened extermination. The ancient religion is rumoured to have been founded by an 11th century Ummayyad sheikh, and is derived from Zoroastrianism (an ancient Persian faith founded by a philosopher), Christianity and Islam. The religion has taken elements from each, ranging from baptism (Christianity) to circumcision (Islam) to reverence of fire as a manifestation from God (derived from Zoroastrianism) and yet remains distinctly non-Abrahamic. This derivative quality has often led the Yazidis to be referred to as a sect. At the core of the Yazidis’ marginalization is their worship of a fallen angel, Melek Tawwus, or Peacock Angel, one of the seven angels that take primacy in their beliefs. Unlike the fall from grace of Satan, in the Judeo-Christian tradition, Melek Tawwus was forgiven and returned to heaven by God. The importance of Melek Tawwus to the Yazidis has given them an undeserved reputation for being devil-worshippers – a notoriety that, in the climate of extremism gripping Iraq, has turned life-threatening. Under Ottoman rule in the 18th and 19th centuries alone, the Yazidis were subject to 72 genocidal massacres. More recently in 2007, hundreds of Yazidis were killed as a spate of car bombs ripped through their stronghold in northern Iraq. With numbers of dead as close to 800, according to the Iraqi Red Crescent, this was one of the single deadliest events to take place during the American-led invasion. The Yazidis had been denounced as infidels by Al-Qaida in Iraq, a predecessor of Isis, which sanctioned their indiscriminate killing. http://www.theguardian.com/world/201...city-mountains |
Re: Let's Remember and Pray for Christians in Iraq
Reports all over the web indicate that ISIS has been marauding against all non-Muslim groups, including Christians.
Worse, yet, be-headings, even of children, are reported to have occurred, likewise of crucifixions. I have seen some of the pics. I hope they are photo-shopped fakes. I really do. But I don't think they are (Don't go searching for them unless you are prepared to see the worse humanity has to offer--very graphic, gory, and violent). |
