Does all christian music glorify God?
I was discussing music on another thread and I know there are different preferences that people have. what do people on this forum feel is worship music?

No

Re: Does all christian music glorify God?
There is much music called "Christian" that I cannot worship God with, for various reasons. Music is a tool that speaks to our soul, and what "speaks" to my soul and allows me to worship the Lord, may not do the same for someone else.

Brother Prado makes a good point here concerning different types of christian music at 1:00:00 in the audio clip. |
Re: Does all christian music glorify God?
There is a difference in music honoring God and music that might be used in the Church worship. Some music I listen to around the house or when driving glorifies God and edifies me but would not be my choice for the gathering.

Ok here is an example. This song is wonderfully edifying to me. I sometimes get off my chair here in the living room and dance with joy while it plays.
Yet it may not be one I would use for the praise and worship in the body meeting. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vaia...QW8rg&index=62 |

If it doesn't twang. it's not spiritual. :D

If the lyrics are biblical and the message is biblical... it honors Christ. Now, some may not "feel" that they can worship to a Heavy Metal Christian song... others might. When it comes to subjects like this... I say... it's an individual conviction with regards to what YOU can worship to.

Re: Does all christian music glorify God?
Seems to me that some groups are so talented or have good taste(chord progressions) in what sounds good. Matter of fact unchristian music may sound good, but I wouldn't support listening to it. I think outside of church people should try to follow the teaching of the church body they are connected to, but there may be some flexibility there. In church there should be music that all can worship with and no one should have to wonder, is this Christian?

That was horrible. Was that a church that let such a abomination be presented? Jesus is not my by boyfriend he is my God and that analogy was sick.

Can we or should we judge a song by how SCRIPTURAL it is?
If yes you will love this ALL scripture. When I used to hear it, it sounded so beautiful. One day in my Contemporary Issues class back in 1971 the teacher asked this question. Who wrote it? Everyone guessed wrong. He answered its in the Bible! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKP4cfU28vM |

For that matter, "Shall we gather at the river?" :lol
How 'bout you get up off that couch, and go gather where some actual living Christians are accomplishing something other than accusing other people of their sin. Already. "Christian" music is mostly just infected. I've yet to here anyone more spiritual and Scriptural as David Byrne. |
Re: Does all christian music glorify God?
Apparently "I'll Fly Away" was taken from a secular song referred to as "The Prisoners Song" thus the prisoner analogy. Same music and some of the same words. That would probably surprise old-time music purists.

Never mind I googled that name.

Re: Does all christian music glorify God?
I dont think ALL "christian" music glorifies God. Some music is good, clean entertainment. I recall some of the hymnals my old church sang as worship really was self indulgent, "clean" and said Lord a few times.

'Never mind' is simply not a fair response, imo. You may not prefer the upbeat music, but his lyrics--which i think go down into the soul much further--are what count. This guy is not frivolous. BAM, find your own.

I have a playlist I made for myself of songs that influenced me toward God and Christ before I became a Christian. I would not use any of them in the worship service. But they were important in my life to make me think of God so I still like to hear them occasionally to remind me of where I came from. They glorified God to me.:highfive |
