Pizza anyone?

This morning service was geared for kids. The minister stated that there was a chocolate fountain and pizza in Heaven. His skit was basically about hiding the truth was as wrong as telling the lie or stealing. Also after service they baptized 18 kids without parents permission (parents not in attendance). I am afraid this could be grounds for a lawsuit. Also what about telling about pizza and chocolate in Heaven. Is not that a lie???

How do you know it was without permission. Just because the parents aren't there doesn't mean they didn't secure permission first. Did you even ask your pastor before posting this?

I don't believe anyone under the age of 16 should be baptized without parental permission. I do believe there will be food of every kind and flavor in heaven, and that includes chocolate and pizza!!

IIRC, you must have permission from the parent of any minor wishing to be baptized. It's a legal issue unfortunately.

A minor can get an abortion without parent's knowledge, but can't be baptized. Sad.

If you don't mind me asking, are you the Pastor of this church?

I have been the pastor of a church and I would definitely not baptize any minor whatever age without parental permission. It shows a lack of respect for the parents. If this account is true, then this pastor has overstepped his bounds and needs to be report to his superiors.

Your last line was my thought when I posted.

Mat_19:14 But Jesus said, Suffer little children, and forbid them not, to come unto me: for of such is the kingdom of heaven. (Uhhhh. but only do it if the local laws allow it)

It is unfortunate that gimmicks are being used to try to bring people into the Kingdom of heaven. What is wrong with preaching the gospel?

I visited a church last weekend and learned that church was for saints, not sinners. Preaching the Gospel should happen outside the church, not inside. The church is for teaching, reproving, rebuking and exhorting, not for evangelism.

Guess that's why they've been at the same size they were the last time I visited over a year ago.

So, when sinners show up at church the preacher should ignore them and start "teaching, reproving, rebuking and exhorting"?

I guess. He was correct that people should be evangelizing out of the church, not hoping the church service does it for them....but there has to be a balance.
Why have a baptistry if church is just for saints?

If a 13yr old received the Holy Ghost one service and felt they needed to be urgently baptized you wouldn't do it? I agree with you for the most part, but I wouldn't think to horribly for anyone baptizing in the name of Jesus. If we are so politically correct we sometimes could also miss the will of God.

Re: Pizza anyone?

You are aware this is a kid service being spoken of, right?

good samaritan 08-25-2014 10:48 PM

Re: Pizza anyone?

I am aware it was, but just addressed a remark with someone saying I would never. I do believe you should ask parents first and the pastor may had clearance with the parents before service. Who knows? It somewhat is making it sound like a bad thing that 18 got baptized. I really think that it is possible that there was a communication problem about the pizza and chocolate.

I have heard many children's evangelists and each try to get on the child's level. I don't believe in lying, but how do I know there may have been some misunderstanding between the person who started the thread and the evangelists message. Praise God about the kids, I hope the church works vey hard to keep them connected and to grow up to be saints of God.

P.S. I don't want to speak negatively on a good report and especially when I wasn't present to the facts myself. no offense.

I would first talk to the parents of the minor and then ask if they have any objections. If they have objections I would attempt to answer them to their satisfaction, but if they still do not want to give permission, I would not baptize that minor.

It is about respecting parents, nothing to do with any political correctness.

Re: Pizza anyone?

I don't judge either way. Odds are if the parents have given consent to come to the church it probably wouldn't be a problem anyhow. I would want to be sensitive though. A lot of people feel that someone has to be so old to be able to process everything. My daughter received the Holy Ghost at 7 or 8. My son has really been praying in the alter lately with much conviction and I don't even see what he has to be convicted on, but maybe picking on his sister.
