Burger King Becomes Canadian!
 

For our Canadian friends it looks like your beloved Tim Horton's is now associated with America's not beloved Burger King.

Burger King is buying Tim Horton's and moving it's HQ to Canada. Apparently a tax advantage in becoming a Canadian company rather than making Tim Horton's an American one.

I've never heard of Tim Hortons. Is that a Canadian fast food place?

Walgreen's was going to move its HQ to Switzerland, but earlier this month changed its mind after a big campaign and backlash against them.

I don't blame any corporation for wanting to lessen tax rates and maximize profits.

When we used to have a lot of Canadian posters on here they would rave about Tim Horton's coffee and I think maybe donuts. That is about the extent of my knowledge of it. I think it is a restaurant and without a doubt it would have to be better than Burger King.

Man the economy is in the pooper. Look at all those minimum wage jobs we just lost. Seriously though our govt needs to encourage companies to move here. Not leave.

Keep in mind Burger King locations are not physically moving! We will still have all of those minimum wage jobs. It just means the corporate profits will be taxed by Canada and not our Federal Government.

You are correct that we need companies moving here not leaving. We clearly need to have our taxes and laws structured to reward companies for being based in the USA. Those who move to avoid taxes should be penalized enough that it doesn't make it worthwhile to do so and our corporate taxes should be fair and reasonable.

The US taxes Burger King at about 35% corporate rate and Canada's rate is about 15%, What makes the US govt mad is now with the move, Burger King won't have to bring their worldwide profits back into the USA, but will leave them in Canada. Good business by Burger King and lousy business by our Democratic controlled congress.

This is the same thing on a international level that Texas governor Rick Perry has done to other states by proselyting companies to Texas with "business friendly environment".

Tim Horton's is THE BEST COFFEE EVER! Drinking it now, as a matter of fact! We special order our coffee from their website, or run up to Canada and get some when we can.

Canada has a conservative prime minister, and he has really done a great job enticing business back to Canada. I'm not a huge fan of Burger King, but I really hope that they are able to bring more Tim Horton franchises closer to us here in the US!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agree! It kills Char Bucks coffee any day. Better price too. The wife and I brew at home in the Technivorm Moca Master auto drip and we love it. It's a shame BK is involved with them. Hopefully they don't mess up coffee like BK messed up the French fry.

Anyone try Dutch Bros or Dunkin Donuts' coffee?

Dunkin Donuts has a very close flavor profile to Tim's. I understand the bean "recipe" for a lack of a better word and roast , is pretty close the same

Dunkin donuts always taste like they are a day old to me. Not near as good as Krispy Kreme or Shipleys. I thought maybe they were just bad in Texas when I lived there but since then I have had Dunkin Donuts in New York and other states and have never been impressed.

Of course now that I am a diabetic my donut days are behind me sadly. A warm glazed donut is the best something can be that is not chocolate!

Could always scarf down that donut with an egg and plenty of heavy whipping cream in your coffee to slow down the sugar absorption, lowering the sugar spike. Sorry, not sure I'm helping your discipline with that advice. It does work though.

Yes, I hate to see BK mixed up with Tim's, but I hope that the eventual outcome of this is that we get more Tim's here in the US!

Seems likely they would spread throughout the US. Tim's is already in business with an ice cream store named Cold Stone, not sure if that helped them spread out or not.

This is a good move on BKs part because McDonalds has really stepped up their game with their Mccafe coffee. Not quite as tasty as Tim's but it works well when there is no Tim's to be found. If Bk can't compete with Mc Ds French fry, maybe coffee will give them the edge thy need.

Good article. Sad that the US is so hard on corporations, but very true. Canada's conservative prime minister and government are to be credited for this wise move.

Actually that's very serious. We charge them a ton of Corporate tax. We encourage them to leave.

The only minimum wage jobs that were lost were those belonging to the Mexican janitors that clean the corporate building after hours.

the rest of the coffee drinkers in this country dont know they need Tims coffee yet. I happen to have a couple Tims near-by. As instructed by a Tims server, you have to stir in heavy whipping cream to get that Tims taste and "feel" to your coffee. My Tims coffee at home tastes as good as what they serve at the store.

That was the possibility that popped into my mind also when somebody posted you were supposed to add in heavy whipped cream to get the "Tim's taste"! Really good coffee is good plain black.

No, my coffee has to have the good stuff in it! Heavy cream, turbinado sugar, made with Tim's coffee. Now THAT will get your morning off to a good start, along with some time in the Word!!!!! (My daily routine is Tim's coffee + Word = a great way to start your day!) :coffee2

Coffee bagels pastries donuts and sandwiches to go or eat in mostly in north east and canada nice place ,fifteen percent corp tax in canada thirty five here warren buffet made this possible by providin the bucks in billions will save billions by doing this way to go bo bo ps started by tim horton the late hockey player doesn't get any better eh?
